Schedule Automated Sync - set a time to sync once a day
Like Windows Update, let me set a time once a day to have everything synch. I use Xmarks to sync between browsers and computers. It would be nice to have them merged together at say 3 AM every day.

Inappropriate? How about offering 4 or 6 hr windows only where I can say 2 to 4AM or 2 to 6AM for example. The process should be reasonably fast and upon connection, the program can detect server load and recheck server load maybe every 2 minutes? I know, easier said than done. :-)
Obviously people in different time zones could avoid overtaxing any one window although there will be preferences for night time, in my opinion.

Inappropriate?I would strongly suggest to find some solution to this problem. I greatly appreciate your service but I think you should serve me and not vice versa. The slowing down (actually my browser stops for 4 to 6 minutes while the syncronisation is in progress, probably you have some statistics about it) is not merely frustrating but causes me a lot of demage when I am working online on the stock market. I know I am not obliged to resort to the use of Xmarks but as I have alredy told you I apprecite your service. You should find some solution to this problem. For example some form of Peter's suggestion would be acceptable for me. Taking into account the amount of information you store for us it woud not take much memory space to store the time interval when my (our) computer is free to sync the bookmarks. Or my computer can check in to your sever telling that it is ready for syncronisation for the next ten to twelve hours.

Inappropriate?Would it be possible to delay the synchronization so that it doesn't happen as soon as I open my browser? Something like a 1 minute delay.

Inappropriate? How about only syncing when the bookmarks have actually changed? I've noticed Xmarks syncing more than once in a day at random times when I know nothing has changed. There's nothing to sync! I love this service but this is the biggest problem right now. I feel like every time I need to watch something in YouTube, Xmarks starts to sync and it slows my entire PC down.

Inappropriate? The fact that you do not allow users to set any kind of sync schedule whatsoever has forced me to stop using XMarks. I got tired of finding my browser unusable when my bookmarks were being sync'd too many times a day. Dropbox provides me with the same functionality...instantaneously and with versioned backups of my Firefox bookmarks file.
I find your excuse that your servers will somehow be brought to their knees if this is implemented to be disingenuous. We're syncing incrementally changed text for chrissakes, not 2gb videos. You either need to figure out a business model to implement resources to handle this fictional dilemma, or charge for a "pro" version with this feature. It's apparent you're using Amazon's S3 service, which can certainly handle the traffic. I'm not saying this is an easy service to run, but you obviously have the user based and notoriety to come up with a solution...even if it requires charging users for it. How you can run a syncing service without a single control for scheduling is beyond me.

Inappropriate?I too have just deleted Xmarks from my computer for the reasons stated: no ability to change sych schedule, no ability to stop it once it starts, synching when nothing has changed, and the way it completely slows my computer.
Will investigate Dropbox.
I’m fed up
