Synchronization error(4)
Hi. Can someone help me?
Before I updated Foxmarks on Firefox 3.0.3, Foxmarks sync'd fine. Now my windows Vista computer doesn't seem to sync anymore. I can't even add my password. When I press 'ok' on the foxmark settings window - nothing happens. The window just stays there - I can't even sign in anymore via the settings window because the button doesn't respond.

Inappropriate?Hello-
After struggling with this for a while, I realized it was tied to another issue with FireFox and how it stores passwords. On the Foxmarks config screen, if you uncheck 'remember this password..' then you can click 'ok'. This led me to the password issue, which I tried to fix before (by changing the encoding) but did not have success. So, I just ended up deleting the key3.db, signons2.txt and signons3.txt files from my Firefox profile folder and started having Firefox save passwords anew. Seems cleaner to me (I was only having it save a few passwords anyway). This allows you to check the 'remember this password..' checkbox and hit 'ok' within Foxmarks.
If you want to try and change the encoding on signons2.txt and signons3.txt first, here is the link for info on that: http://groups.google.com/group/mozill... (it is in the 3rd message down).
If it doesn't work you will probably have to take my route and delete the three files.

Inappropriate?I have had the same experience. The error still occurs. Version 2.6.0 doesn't fix it. Works fine with Linux but not Windows.

Robert S: Your problem seems to be that "Use your own server" is checked, but no URL is provided. If you're not using your own server, go to Tools > Foxmarks > Settings, "Advanced" and UNcheck "Use own server".

Unticking "Use own server" sorted it out but I'm unclear as to why it suddenly was ticked as I'm the only one to use this computer and the only reason I went to look at the settings was because it had suddenly stopped syncing. -
We've seen a couple cases where the "use your own server" setting seems to have been set without any action by a human hand. We've not been able to replicate this behavior at all, but if anyone comes up with a reproducible case, please let us know!

Eric, the uncheck "use own server" advice worked wonderfully. I vaguely remember changing a setting probably with that name on it when I set up foxmarks on my XP desktop. The question is confusing and led me to this wall which is now fixed. Maybe I hit the "custom setup button"? I'm not sure. Thanks so much!

Well, it'll also be stored on the computer(s) you're synchronizing, but the Foxmarks extension won't send any password data to servers outside what you specify.

Inappropriate?Eric THANKYOU this worked for me.. I was ata loss aas to why I could not sync, or even get past the signon screen.. I just wanted to add that my settings were as they were were installed..Out of interest I too had just installed FM on my new vista laptop & had not changed anything in my foxmark settings !. So maybe someone can take a look at the default settings .. as it could save others having the same problem..

Tamba1: You're welcome! It does seem like some people are getting that value set inadvertently, but we've had no luck determining why that is, and it seems to happen very rarely, so we haven't been able to replicate it, either.

Inappropriate?I just spontaneously got the Synchronization error(4) as well. I also get an additional error: "Failed to load baseline". I'm using my own server and this had been working for about two weeks, then yesterday, I could no longer sync. I hadn't made any changes to my system or installed any new software.
The server and shares are still available (it works from other systems) but this one system refuses to sync. Unchecking 'remember this password' does not fix the problem for me. Deleting key3.db and signon2.txt also does not fix the problem. Any ideas?

Interesting. The "Failed to load baseline" suggests a problem with that Firefox profile folder. If you create a new Firefox profile, does it start working again?

Peter Maclennan: Seems your bookmarks have gone wonky; try an upload to the Foxmarks server:
Tools > Foxmarks > Settings, "Advanced": "Upload" -
Inappropriate?My problems started when I upgraded to 2.6.2. It wouldn't sync and my error message was "4." Apparently I was the victim of "We've seen a couple cases where the "use your own server" setting seems to have been set without any action by a human hand." I unchecked that and I'm now good to go! Thanks!

Inappropriate?I was able to fix this problem by uninstalling Foxmarks, restarting FireFox and then reinstalling Foxmarks.
