Inappropriate? This is a feature of Firefox, not Foxmarks. Firefox allows you to set a master password to protect all of your web passwords, including your password for your Foxmarks account. If you've enabled Firefox's Master Password, Firefox will ask you to supply this password in each Firefox session the first time that Foxmarks tries to sync. If you don't need to protect access to your passwords, disable the Master Password by going to Tools / Options / Security / Passwords in Firefox and click to remove the check-mark in the box "Use a master password." If you need to keep your passwords secure (because, for instance, other people have physical access to your computer), you might consider disabling Foxmarks' automatic synchronization by going to Tools / Foxmarks / Settings... and unchecking the checkbox.
If you have forgotten your Master Password, you can do the following to reset it (which will also cause you to lose your stored passwords, but those were inaccessible to you without the the Master Password anyway):
Enter "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul" in the location bar and click on "Reset"

Thank you so much Eric this is the answer I've been looking for.. -
Awesome, thanks so much -
Inappropriate?I do not have the master password checked, but when I try to set up foxmarks it asks me for a security password. Why is this happening? Its very frustrating!
-
Inappropriate?pamkrischt: Is it asking you for the Firefox master password, or just for the Foxmarks username and password? Can you include a screenshot of what you're seeing?
-
it asks for Foxmarks username and password then asks for Firefox master password. I went and checked to see if use master password was checked in tools and it isn't. So I don't know why it is asking for it. -
You mentioned checking under "tools"--did you look in the Firefox configuration as mentioned on this page? I'm not sure how the behavior you describe could happen. -
Inappropriate?First I tried the tools/options/security/passwords and removed the check mark in "use a master password" then it asked for the current password in order to remove the check mark in the "use a master password". (a real catch 22) Then I did as you suggested in order to get rid of the Master Password and entered the chrome etc etc in the location bar which I assume is the same thing as the address bar and it did not work. I got error message that it could not find. I am still wanting to download your software.

If you've forgotten your master password, you'll need to consult the Mozilla documentation on how to get it working again:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/F...
It's possible, though, that your Firefox profile folder is corrupted, and you may need to create a new one to get things working again:

Inappropriate?yes i looked in tools/options/security/passwords and "use a master password was unchecked. I never used a master password and don't use one cuz I already have enough passwords to remember.

Inappropriate?Maybe I'll try deleting and reinstalling foxmarks. Maybe that will work. It works fine on my other computer (laptop).
-
Inappropriate?I want to thank you for all your help. Sounds like this has you stumped too. Like I said above I'll just try deleting and reinstalling it. I'll let you know if it works.
