In case you missed our update on other threads...
We just released an alpha version of Xmarks for Chrome! You can get all the details in our Xmarks Blog post, which includes directions for joining and getting started.
We've also got a new Get Satisfaction product forum available for Chrome, please let us know what you think! Just remember that this is an alpha release, there will be some issues that need to be ironed out.
Thanks,
James

Hi,
it's June now, is there any progress on the Google Chrome & Xmarks becoming a reality soon??? Pretty please?
I have 3 pc's of my own, plus use a variety of ones at college & have installed foxmarks then xmarks on my own firefox & IE & use it online if not on my own PC's, so the only thing preventing me from changing over to Chrome now is the lack of xmark

Hey Jay,
As posted above, refer to the thread I posted for the latest updates. We're still waiting on Google to release their extension API's, without those we can't start development. We're hoping they will soon!
Thanks-
Just a slight embellishment here--several of the API's we require are now available, so it's mostly just a matter of making sure they're stable and doing the actual port to Chrome. Stay tuned to http://blog.xmarks.com/ for updates!

lastpa$$ is not working on CHROM nor on IE9beta no Password Synch
-

If you install Xmarks for Chrome v0.9.0, it's probably NOT a good idea to enable its password synchronization. Under IE8, the password synchronization takes at least overnight, with no error message saying why. Also, v0.9.0 does not seem to offer any way to turn off passwords synchronization once you have enabled it - even uninstalling v0.9.0 and reinstalling it will not help.

Wow, after all this wining and shouting we've seen, we DO get this add-on. Even when it is still at alpha-level, I still need to thank you all at xmarks.com.
You made my day. I really did not expect it to be here in a few months.
I just hope a few of us do learn how to behave...
THANKS! -

Hope there will be a RTM version asap for Google Chrome ;-)

Hi gpzbc,
We do have a version of Xmarks available Chrome although it's still being tested and bug-fixed. Check out our blog for the latest information:

I'm seeing occasional crashes of Xmarks in Chrome 4.0.249.78 beta. It doesn't crash the browser, at least.

The question should be when will it work correctly for google chrome?
-
-
@PJ Vernon: Good question. That's why I am not using it at the moment. Waiting for a RTM version ;-)
-
-
I'm still waiting for a working, bugfree version ;) I need synchro between my chrome and my safari browser on my mac, as I use the safari synchro on mobile me to get my bookmarks on my iPhone as well, but at home I prefer to use chrome than safari ;)
-
-
A week or so back I had an issue with xmark not working with chrome. You should uninstall and reinstall. I know that on a 64bit version of windows7. I did that and used the new version and it works very well. You can alwasy support the developers for better service;)
-
-
Of course, "working" is the key word. Synchronization continues to fail. When is it going to be WORKING?
-
-
Xmarks for Chrome does not work Properly. It Doubles Bookmarks.
1- It does not remember the password,
2- It has 3-sub menu whereas ıt was 6 in Mozilla-Firefox extension. In which it had "restore old dated Bookmarks".
3- This is very important since in Chrome it does not "MERGE" !. It multiplies, doubles the Bookmarks. So, I can not use Xmarks in Chrome in Auto mode.
All these needs correction.-
That looks not good ... I also had problems with my bookmarks but I assume that Firefox was the bad man. They changed the bookmarks folder since FF 3.6.? and so I almost lost my bookmarks.
I was able to restore my bookmarks but the order of bookmarks and order of separators lines where lost ^^
But the FF version never doubled entries or done something stupid. So I still use X-Marks for FF but not for Chrome ;-) Thank you for sharing your experiences you had with Chrome and X-Marks! -

For what its worth, I had all kinds of problems syncing Chrome Bookmarks with Firefox Bookmarks early on. But I haven't had any problems lately. It seems to be running smoothly.
-
-
well I still have problems with XMARKS in Firefox
Yesterday i got a question if I wanted to keep bookmark1 on server or bookmark 2 local. BOTH BOOKMARKS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME!! I selected one, but again on next bookmar, and again..
I cancelled the sync..
Before that problem I have had firefox frozen because of foxmarks, I didn't uninstall foxmarks because I don't use firefox I use Chrome -
-
At the moment, I'll be ditching Xmarks for Chrome and using Google's own "Synchronise Bookmarks" option until it can be more reliable.
-
-
-
-
I'm not using Xmarks anymore either because it keeps duplicating bookmarks in Mac Chrome. Too bad. This isn't the first time I've seen a good product languish into obscurity.
-
-
Thank you all who are reporting bugs you're finding in Chrome, but this topic was originally intended to be about Xmarks for Chrome availability, not the polish on the completed extension.
Glancing over some recent replies here, I see bookmark doubling and password sync listed, both of which are addressed in other topics I've linked them to. If you're experiencing any other issues, please search for the appropriate topic and provide some helpful data that could get us closer to fixing any problems.
Thanks again! -
-
Sync profiles don't work on my Linux Chrome. Xmakrs just synchronizes all bookmarks and ignores the current profile.

As I mentioned in the reply directly before yours, feel free to create a fresh topic to address that issue, as this topic doesn't seem relevant.

Hey good first attempt on the XMarks for Chrome. But there is a minor issue that has arisen. If you use Firefox AND Chrome your links will not work in both. What I mean is, lets say I have a bunch of links from Firefox set with user/pw and then go to the same sites for Chrome it makes me put the password in again for its use in Chrome, then when I go back to Firefox that same link has now forgotten its user/pw.
There has to be a way to separate those links so XMarks works in both products. Possibly different bookmark "folders" per browser vendor in the my.xmarks.com site? Unsure the best way to resolve it, it just needs resolving.
Thanks and I think you guys are great! -

I use Chrome on Windows 7 but I cannot sync my bookmarks.
Used for years with FF, but now I have too search for another program that can do this work :( -
-
Since I renewed my laptop, with Windows 7 and Chrome browser, I have always called up my bookmarks from foXmarks. However, today it is just giving me a blank page! And the same when I go to Xmarks.com.
Does this mean my bookmarks have been lost on the Xmarks computer?-

Another user rather fed up with Xmarks failing to sync with Chrome.
-
-
I finally got mine to work by turning off Chrome/Google's built in bookmark sync. Now it works perfectly with Chrome, Firefox, Safari on Win and Mac!
-
Which version of Chrome? Beta? Is Xmarks working accross all 3 browsers?
-
-
How do you turn off Chrome/Google's built in bookmark sync? Where do you find Xmarks for Safari for Windows (I've already found the version for Macs)?
-

Chrome 5. Yes I have it working across all 3 browsers on Win7 and Mac. Wherever I go my bookmarks are in perfect sync now.

OK, I thought there was no xmarks extension for Win7 Safari. Maybe I should try it!

@reallyrandy, did you try it out? it's somewhat like delicious.com or Digg, but with less emphasis on social bookmarking, more emphasis on efficient access-anywhere bookmarking, and the added bonus of a search tailoring component.
And if you call this spamming, then shit! I'll spam where I damn well feel like it! -
-
@iambipedal: Since you provided alternatives which work with Chrome, FF and IE I wouldn't call it spam ;) Thank you for your hint!
Maybe SkyDrive and iGoogle would be alternatives too even they are more than bookmark synchronizers ;) -

Synchronization never works for my Xmarks for Chrome 0.9.0, under Windows Vista. No useful error message about why.
About 24,000 bookmarks. -
-
I'm seeing signs that my unsuccessful tries at synchronizing Xmarks for Chrome may have added enough duplicate bookmarks and folders to increase my 24,000 bookmarks to over 69,000. Could an option be added to detect duplicates caused by the current and older versions of Xmarks for Chrome, and merge or delete them?
Also an option to count and display the total number of bookmarks and the total number of folders?
Another possibility - add an option to search for and display bookmarks that were added inside Chrome, and not by either the import from IE during installation or by trying to synchronize with the Xmarks server, and display just those URLs and their locations in the folder tree, so that users can save those in a text file and manually put them back in the correct folders after telling Xmarks for Chrome to replace its set of bookmarks with the set currently on the server?
Could you add some information to any page for downloading future versions of Xmarks for Chrome, stating whether that version has corrected the problems with adding duplicates when used in a cross-browser setup with Xmarks for Firefox, which often rearranges the contents of some folders in a less than obvious pattern, or Xmarks for IE, where IE allows the user to rearrage folders in alphabetical order except with subfolders above any bookmarks?-
It increased the total number of bookmarks, but only to 35,420. It also increased the number of folders by adding duplicate folders; I did not record how many.
A problem harder to fix , probably also caused by Xmarks for Chrome:
About a quarter of the new total number of bookmarks had the URL changed to about:blank (which does not work). This was hard to even see until I added the CheckPlaces add-on to Xmarks for Firefox, so I can't be sure the cause was Xmarks for Chrome.

A suggested feature to handle the about:blank problem: Offer a way to find bookmarks with the URL about:blank, then seach for previous synchronizations where a bookmark with a similar or identical name had a URL other than about:blank, not necessarily in the same folder. If any are found, offer the user a chance to either overwrite the about:blank bookmarks or save one or more of the similar bookmarks found, with a new set of internal identifiers if needed. The list of choices should be arranged in order of decreasing similarity of the bookmark names. I suspect that most users seeing this problem are already using a cross-browser setup, so offering this feature on Xmarks for any browser that will run under Windows Vista without creating new problems would be reasonable. Or, if you prefer, offer it on your website instead, if you can speed up the website enough.

I think all Xmarks users are aware of it. But will it really be discontinued ...? Maybe there will be a payed version ($10-$20/year) which continues ...? I think at the moment it doesn't really makes sense to put to much energy on it until we know if Xmarks continues or not ;)
-
-
I agree. I haven't written it off totally yet, but it doesn't make much sense to work with it until we know for sure. Which is why I was wondering if "milesrf" knew that.

this is a MAFIA APP get your $$$$$$$ and gives you ONLY back FRUST!!! -

Maybe it wasn't the best idea (except for their profit) to sell xmarks to lastpass ;-)
Hope such problems will be fixed otherwise the app will lose a lot of users (and payers) ... -

My Chrome browser will no longer sync with Xmarks. That means that I can't get the cross-browser functionality that I am looking for. I also use Firefox and Chrome in Windows and Ubuntu. This used to work just fine until recently.
Have tried everything, including re-installing Xmarks in Chrome. Also re-set my password. Now Xmarks will not accept my *new* or *old* password in Chrome.
Having read through the above I can see that Chrome and Xmarks are in a state of chaos at the moment - not much chance of getting my problem resolved here.-
Seems that this problem has unexpectedly resolved itself. Four possible scenarios to explain what happened:
1. I used Firefox to reset the password a second time. When I went back into Chrome the new password was accepted.
2. Chrome updated to a new version in the middle of my problems with Chrome and Xmarks. This corrected the password problem in Chrome.
3. The *first* password reset that I did somehow corrupted Xmarks and the second reset that I did, using Firefox, fixed the password problem.
4. Any combination of the above.
Whatever, I am pleased to report that I am now once again able to sync my bookmarks between both Firefox and Chrome in Ubuntu and both Firefox and Chrome in Windows and also Chrome and Firefox in Ubuntu on my Notebook.
Don't know what I would do without Xmarks! -
-
-
-
-
XMARKS DELETED ALL MY BOOKMARKS. i lost 1200 bookmarks the moment i installed xmarks. they have no help systems and it wiped my chrome backup also. DONT USE THIS PROGRAM.
-
Note that Xmarks for Chrome v0.9.0 is still called a beta test version - i.e. not ready for general release.
Therefore, as long as you're using it anyway , you need another method to save a backup copy of its bookmarks:
http://www.google.com/support/chrome/...
Also, note that using both the Xmarks for Chrome synchronizer and any other brand of synchronizer at the same time is not a good idea - it's likely to either produce many duplicates, or lose some or all of the bookmarks.
Xmarks for Chrome currently doesn't work well unless you make the FIRST connection to the Xmarks server either an upload or a download instead of a normal merge or synchronization, and leave passwords synchronization turned off. -

Hello! I'm your customer for years and recently bought premium LastPass + Xmarks package.
Still, otherwise excellent Xmarks for Chrome suffers for the same error for many month: it syncs fine after installation but then stops working - constantly displaying a green exclamation point and not doing anything. The only way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall Xmarks. Then it works for a short period of time and stops to work again. Are you going to fix this issue finally? A lot of people reports it on your forum.
Firefox and IE versions of Xmarks do not suffer from that bug, as far as I know. -
-
I suspect that the server lets the connection time out without ever telling Chrome that the synchronization is finished in a way it will understand. I've seen that problem with Xmarks for Chrome, but not with the recent versions of Xmarks for Firefox or Xmarks for IE.
How many bookmarks do you have? I had around 20,000 before I imported an older HTML export to restore some bookmarks that wouldn't synchronize. I've seen signs that the my.xmarks.com server won't handle bookmarks sets bigger than about 7,000 correctly. Also, the new duplicates tool on online.xmarks.com won't keep its connection in progress long enough to finish loading all of my database (currently about 37,000). -
-
milesrf,
I have a lot. Not sure how to count exact number of bookmarks. But it looks like the very first time after installation, Xmarks syncs OK. Then, after a while it stops working, entering that "forever green exclamation mark" mode. -
-
vkelman,
The best way I've found to count large numbers of bookmarks is to install Firefox, Xmarks for Firefox, and the CheckPlaces addon for Firefox. CheckPlaces can easily count all the bookmarks you have. For me, it works even if I import a second set of my over 20,000 bookmarks in order to recover any bookmarks lost in the set currently on the server. This produces over 40,000 in all.

Xmarks still doesn't work in Chrome and their staff doesn't seem to care. They even don't answer on emails from their premium customer. extremely frustrating. I would move to another service, but there is no one similar....
I'm pretty sure that endless syncing problem is related to Firefox special "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder. Xmarks [on Chrome] doesn't handle it properly. It creates more and more copies of this folder and shows green exclamation mark endlessly.-
The source of the SyncPlaces addon is working on a Chrome version. Not ready for even beta testing, though. Already has a Firefox version.
http://www.andyhalford.com/
I suspect that it's only the email method for premium customers that LastPass/Xmarks doesn't care about. When I've used it, I got no answer for several days. I then put a short summary of the problem in this forum, including the Support Request number as a source of details, and finally got an answer.
LastPass/Xmarks HAS released a few new versions of Xmarks for Chrome lately, so apparantly they do care about problems where they notice the problem report. -

I've been having the same issue. I've had to remind xmarks over and over again to do it's job. I've finally uninstalled it, but now just let Google sync it's stuff. I lose my firefox syncing, but I hardly use that anymore, so it's no big thing.
Was hoping Lastpass was good for xmarks. Maybe I'll be having Google sync my passwords as well soon. -

Constantly (every couple of minutes) the Xmarks Chrome Extension ist telling me that I should better turn it off. Now what kind of product is this, if it tells me constantly to better NOT use it? Ridiculous.

To be honest I never used Xmarks with Chrome. Always used Firefox and IE for it. Never tried it for Chrome since I only heard bad feedback about it. It would be very annoying loosing bookmarks or having all/some of them double or if they're not in sync ...
My suggestion: Use Firefox!

I gave up and switched to Firefox... Xmarks is working perfectly. But, why all of a sudden Xmarks doesn't work in Chrome?

I am afraid it will never work with Chrome since there seems no business for the Xmarks company .... but works fine with Firefox!

Again, you know what works in ALL browsers without requiring any browser-specific plugins? A totally web based solution like http://www.svidgen.com
Note that we're pending some massive updates to enhance navigation, allow easy link sharing via facebook, email, etc. And, if we get enough outcry, we'll consider the most secure means for adding password storage.
Please check it out!-
When you need starting spamming here, please add "svidgen" to getsatisfaction.com and we'll see how good (or not) it is and post only the getsatisfaction.com-url here ...
This thread is for Xmarks only!
Thank you! -

A totally web based solution would be excellent, but not one like Svidgen. I don't want to play social media games with "heroes" and "fans", I just want to store and access my gazillions of bookmarks. Also that bright pink logo is a terrible eyesore and an instant annoyance factor. What I'm looking for is a clean, fast, well-organised and private bookmarks solution designed for people over 15. C'mon Xmarks, you can do it.

I have been getting all the replies to this thread and decided to get it back on topic.
It works for me!
I have X-marks - Version: 1.0.14 and Chrome 11 running on Windows Vista.
When I click the "bookmark star" in chrome I got a small dialog box near the star, that asks me what to call the bookmark and where should it file it (using the last place I filed a bookmark as the next suggestion, which I can pull down and edit to a new place or even a new folder if needed).
The extension icon lights up with a "yet to sync" and then does.
I can click on the extension icon to get access to the web version of my xmarks, but if I open a new tab, in the upper right corner of the page is a folder icon and "other bookmarks" and I click on this and have access to all my bookmarks.
I hope this feedback helps the devs or even others with this issue.
As someone who used YahooBookmarks til the day they announced it was sunsetting, I was happy to find Xmarks.-
And I occasionally use Xmarks to export my bookmarks just in case they pull a Yahoo.

I'm glad to hear that some people find that X-Marks is now working perfectly for Chrome. But given its longstanding history of serious problems, especially when used in conjunction with X-Marks for Firefox, and the ongoing silence from the developers, I think it's very risky to rely upon it. I'd like to see some evidence that fixes have been released and that new problems are not being reported.
Having said that, X-Marks for Firefox has always been fine, and Firefox itself keeps on getting better, whereas Chrome has been problematic in various ways, so my interest in switching over to Chrome has faded. -
-
It seems Xmarks for Chrome doesn't work well with the profiles. I have Xmarks installed on two computers (one profile for each), each one with Firefox and Chrome sharing the bookmarks between them. I keep getting ALL bookmarks mixed up on Firefox.
