Why does Xmarks keep telling me that a file has been synced on another computer, when in fact this is not the case?
For some days now, I am repeatedly receiving the following message:
Xmarks has detected that you have uploaded a sync file from another computer to the server. You can merge the server bookmarks with your local bookmarks (the safest choice), or you can download the server bookmarks, overwriting your local bookmarks. Which do you prefer?
In fact, my bookmarks are up to date, and no other computer is running when I receive these messages.

Inappropriate?I solved the problem by doing a complete uninstall of FireFox, including wiping out passwords, bookmarks, etc, and then reinstalling followed by syncing to Xmarks.

Inappropriate?Didn't work for me. I uninstalled Firefox and still got the message. I also had XMarks installed on IE so I tried completely uninstalling XMarks, installing a new Firefox, and then reinstalling XMarks both for IE and Firefox.
Did it work...? Dunno, we'll see.

Inappropriate?Baoyu's solution is actually a little bit scorched earth; you should be able to remedy the warning by simply merging the bookmarks. The message simply indicates that the server's version of bookmarks might be divergent from what's in your browser, so by merging you ensure that there'll be no data loss.
If the error persists, I'd suggest checking your bookmarks at https://my.xmarks.com/ and if they look okay there, just do a download. -
What do you mean "do a download?" Could you be more specific? -
Inappropriate?I actually completely erased Firefox from my computer and then reinstalled it. I then went to the XMarks site and tried to restore my bookmarks, bookmark toolbar, and passwords and it said it was restoring them, but they are still not in Firefox. They are all listed on the website, but they are not making it to my program. I also went to the Sync tab and made sure everything was checked, entered my PIN number and clicked on "Save and Close"...still nothing.
On another note, I also have Mozbackup and I have a back up that I created on Sept 11th...I tried to restore that with no luck at all...any ideas??? Am I doing something incorrectly with regards to restoring my bookmarks/passwords? Thanks again!
I do not have an option to sync my bookmarks from Firefox itself...I'm trying to do everything from the Xmarks website. Do I need to re-download the Xmarks program??? -
Inappropriate?I have the same persistent problem. I have Xmarks on my home PC in both Firefox and IE. I also have Xmarks on Firefox on two different laptops. The only browser that is giving me this problem is Firefox on my home PC. Regardless of which option I choose, the dialogue window keeps popping up asking me again. I have uninstalled Xmarks form Firefox and reinstalled it and it persists. If I go to 'tools' and choose 'synchronize now' it doesn't resolve it either.
This only started recently, i believe after I upgraded to the newest version of Firefox, but I am not sure.
It is driving me nuts.
I am running windows vista 32 bit with SP2. Firefox version 3.5.3 -
Inappropriate?Eric (Official Rep), I did merge the bookmarks several times, but did not try doing a download directly from the server, as I recall... I tried the options that were presented when I received the Xmarks alert.
Gerald, There appear to be numerous problems with the latest version of Firefox.
