Why doesn't xmarks for IE work like xmarks for Firefox?
I prefer to use FF, but some websites I use often don't work with it, so I have to use IE, and I have xmarks for both on my work and home computers. I'm running the latest versions of IE, FF, and xmarks for each, and I have xmarks set to auto sync on both. The issue I run into is that FF auto syncs when I close the app, but IE does not because xmarks for IE is on the computer rather than a browser add-on like it is for FF. This means that every time I sync with FF, I have to manually sync with IE in order to have the changes when I open IE.
I also wonder if the problems with login info not being remembered in xmarks for IE might be related to this, though I'm not sure. I seem to have this problem on my work computer (XP SP3) but not on my home computer (Vista 64), but I might just not see it at home becaue I restart daily at work, and not unless required at home. Neither computer has a problem with FF, but the UI is different in FF, allowing you to login in the properties box, and store the username and password in the "saved passwords" section of "tools: options".
I love xmarks so I can sync across different computers and browsers, but these 2 issues get very frustrating to deal with. With IE8 now having browser add-ons like FF, I wonder when you'll make xmarks a browser add-on for IE. I also wonder if this might make password sync on IE possible?
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hi Kelly,
Thanks for writing in, let me see if I can answer all three of your questions.
First: you're right, Xmarks for IE behaves differently than Xmarks for Firefox. The reason we ended up with this difference is because IE Favorites are different than Firefox bookmarks. IE Favorites are available and used by many applications, not just IE. To ensure that we captured all changes made to your IE Favorites, we decided to keep Xmarks for IE running at all times (and not tie it IE). Unfortunately, this can lead to some less than perfect situations, like the one you're running into. Unfortunately I don't think there's much we can do to improve things in the immediate future. However, we're constantly looking to improve our user experience, this situation is something we'll keep in mind going forward.
Secondly: password sync for IE is not on our near term future. IE's password storage system is very, very different from Firefox's, it's going to be difficult to get them to work together.
And finally: we've had a couple of users complain about their IE passwords not being remembered. This is certainly not how things are supposed to work! There's some more information about possible a possible (very technical) cause here: http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks/t...
Cheers!

Inappropriate?Thank you, Colin. I suppose the world would just be easier if everyone used FF, it being the superior browser :P
I have already read and tried the steps in the link you mentioned for IE passwords, but I am still having problems. I posted a note on that thread about what I got.
Thanks again.
