Xmark for IE shows Error during sync my IE 8 favorites
I use Xmarks at two computers. One of them with XP SP3 and one with Vista Ultimate SP1. Each of them with Firefox 3.0.8 and IE 8.0.6. Sync with Firefox works well, but each time I try to sync IE, Xmarks shows an error while syncronisation:
Internal error while wrinting to your Favorites [1001]: Error while opening CreateFile.
What doese this mean, when I try to sync my favorites with IE and how could this be solved?

Inappropriate?Hi,
Are you seeing this error on both computers when you try to synchronize or just one? I think you might be able to clean this problem up by going to the Advanced Foxmarks settings dialog and doing a Download. This will replace your local Favorites with what you have backed on our servers. After a download everything should synchronize happily. Let me know if this works for you. -
This does not work for me. I had no issues when using foxmarks for IE8, but after installing xmarks and trying to do a full download/overright I get errors everytime like the one above. -
This is an error I get; Internal error while writing to your Favorites [1001]: Error while opening CreateFile [\\?\C:\Users\S33k3r\Favorites\Links\meta.fm]: 5 -
I have the same problem as well as duplicate bookmarks -
Hey guys,
Sorry about that. If you're getting an error complaining about a file (like in the original error report here) can you try opening Windows Explorer, finding that file, and manually deleting it? This is annoying, I know, but I think doing that and then a download in Xmarks should get everything back to normal. -
I was having this problem too - but checking the contents of the IE Favorites folder, I noticed the the "problem" files had their Read-Only attribute set. When removing that the sync process passes those files.
Find your Favorites folder (under Documents and Settings or Users), right-click and choose Properties. Uncheck the Read-only attribute box (it may be greyed if only some of the favourites are read-only), then click on Apply. Apply to all files including sub-folders. -
Inappropriate?Hi Colin,
I've been getting this "Error during sync" with Foxmarks for IE and the new Xmarks for IE. I have no issues with the Firefox version.
The error message I get is:
============
An error occurred during synchronization. Please visit our help page for support.
Sync Error:
FoxmarksException during sync [1537] attempt: FoxmarksException [1001]: Error while opening CreateFile [\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\user\Favorites\RWeb.url\: 32
============
I've carried out your suggestion however when I manually delete the "problem" file and then initiate a "download" the error appears again but with a different bookmark/file.
The only workaround I've found, is to completely delete all my bookmarks in my Favourites folder before doing a "download".
However, this will only last for a little while like 1-2 syncs and then I get the "Error during sync" message again, which is extremely frustrating.
I'm running XP SP3 and IE8.
Do you have an ETA as to a solution for this issue?

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. deleting the entry did not solved the problem. A new one appeared.
-
Inappropriate? This is very strange; for any of you experiencing this problem, do you have any other software that's synchronizing your bookmarks, or maybe another user on the same computer that's using the same bookmark collections? If the files are changing out from underneath you, that's the first thing I'd check for. Beyond that, I'm not quite sure--we've had no luck replicating this on our end.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem here. Vista x64. Previously I was using Firefox and was sync'ing fine there. Then, I heard the good things about IE8. Turns out I get this error as well. Guess we gotta wait this one out.

Can you provide a few more details about exactly what you're seeing? If you go to the Advanced Xmarks settings you should see a "View Log File" button. If you look near the end of that file you should see an error that you can copy and paste here. -
Inappropriate?I too am getting a simular error and have been for a while now. Last night I deleted all the bookmarks from my computer and then downloaded them again so I had a clean slate. The first time or two I had no sync problems but when I got home from work I and an error.
Sync Error: FoxmarksException during sync [1537] attempt: FoxmarksException [101]; Error while opening CreateFile [\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\TAMI\Favorites\ALL MORNINGS\(0 unread) ATamp;T Yahoo Mail, tamihall2@sbcglobal.net.url] 32
I tried to do just a download to write over what I have now and I get this error:
Internal error while writing to your Favorites [1001]: Error while opening CreateFile [\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\TAMI\Favorites\a Morning\80s on www.Audible.FM.url]: 32
I deleted the file in question, redownloaded and got the same error again
Internal error while writing to your Favorites [1001]: Error while opening CreateFile [\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\TAMI\Favorites\a Morning\80s on www.Audible.FM.url]: 32
I received these kind of errors before when I was running FoxMarks so that is why I went to XMarks. And about the same time is when I went from IE 7 to IE 8. So the problem is not with the version of IE
I am going to try one more time deleting all my favorite folders and re-downloading them from the server. Outside of that I do not know what to do.
I am running Windows XP SP3, IE 8.0.6001, Xmarks IE v1.0.10

Oh one thing I forgot to add is that I do not have anyother software trying to sync my bookmarks. -
Can you try NetAmigo's suggestion below (to disable indexing) and see if that fixes anything? -
Inappropriate?I'm also experiencing this.
as I use IE as my second browser, for now I've uninstalled xmarks for IE8.
It seems the problems is gone,
still usinf xmarks for firefox and it seems it works OK.
I got the bookmarks duplicated at a point in the troubleshooting. I solved this restoring and old version of bookmark from firefox. when the pop up window afrom xmarks for IE8 ask for a syncrhonization, alway answer overwrite local bookmarks with server ones, and never merge, or you will get duplicated and re-sorted bookmarks.

Inappropriate?I too have this problem. It occurs for with Windows 2003, Xmark 1.1.10 only with IE 8. FireFox has no problem. I use several other installations - XP, Windows 2000 and Vista and do not see it there.
-
Inappropriate?By the way, I tried earlier Colin's suggestion to download new from server and also reinstalling. Downloading does not work due to same error. Reinstalling works but the next time I synchronize, the error reappears.
-
Inappropriate?Actually the link above to Error 1528 and Error 101 has a temporary solution. Turn off indexing on the Favorites folder.
-
Hi,
Thanks for the tip, that's not something I had thought of before. It sounds like Windows was trying to index the Favorites at the same time that we were trying to update them, which would definitely cause a problem. Did you turn off indexing by viewing the properties for the Favorites folder or did you use something else? -
Inappropriate?Turn off indexing by right click on Favorites folder, click Properties, on General tab click Advanced, uncheck "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder."

OK, it works now. Thanks. -
This worked for me. Thanks!!! -
Inappropriate? With IE8 (french) open, no systematic error; with IE8 closed, systematic error.

If you go to the advanced Xmarks settings dialog you should see a button to "View Log File". Can you find any error messages in there? It should be near the bottom of the file. Can you copy the last few lines before the error message and paste them here? Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I have a sync problem which has just started (on IE7.0 5730.13). The bubble pops up with "Synchronization error - An error occurred during synchronization". The error log reads:-
New SyncRequest Initialized [POST]: http://sync.xmarks.com/sync/bookmarks... (cleaned body: {"baserev":"639","log":{"mid":"kokdpu"},"manual":true}
XmarksException during sync attempt: XmarksException [source: network, id: -10]: Couldn't parse response body from server: ?
Help? Thanks. -
Inappropriate?I have IE8 on Vista home premium 64bit and when i sync I get an internal error [source: internal, id -12] : Node not found (it was empty): fx8gjhru-c
I tryed forcing a download like it said on the xmarks help page for "Xmarks for IE" but now I get empty Favoites folders that won't delete.
I tryed the solution from NetAmigo "Turn off indexing by right click on Favorites folder, click Properties, on General tab click Advanced, uncheck "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder." " It worked!
I’m frustrated I can't upload my screenshot

Inappropriate?Hey guys,
I just finished an update for Xmarks for IE that improves our IE8 support and might clean up these issues (hopefully!). It hasn't been officially released yet but you can download it and try it out here: https://static.xmarks.com/clients/ie/...
Let me know if that fixes things for you!
