Xmarks not syncing with Safari 4.0 - no errors, it just doesn't work.
Xmarks for Safari public beta 4 is no longer syncing any of my bookmarks. There are no errors generated, it simply has given up on syncing! I uninstalled Xmarks and reinstalled hoping this would fix it, and it didn't. I even did a force "Download" to replace my local bookmarks, and no changes were made. I logged into my.xmarks.com to verify and the bookmarks that are there are accurate, but my ones on the local machine (Safari 4.0) are outdated.

Inappropriate?I have exactly the same issue. Made sure I was using the same profile too. Will they ever reply?

Inappropriate? After some Googling, it seems the app works with Safari 3 but not Safari 4 beta. Mine is 4, but I won't install 3 just to check. Would appreciate if someone with Safari 3 could report.

i have safari 3.2.3 on an iMac ... and it doesn't sync either ... and i don't know how to force it manually and i am very unhappy! -
Inappropriate? It was working fine for me for months. Absolutely love this app!!!! I've had installed Safari 3 & 4 and installed Foxmark for Safari, Xmarks for Safari 1.0 & 1.1.0. No problems at all with any of them - a perfect experience.
But then I uninstalled and reinstalled xmarks today for other reasons and now it wont automatically sync. Running Safari 4 Beta 5528.17 OS X 10.5.7.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hey everyone,
Sorry for the delayed response! We currently support Safari 3, but you are definitely welcome to try Xmarks with Safari 4. Many people have reported that they've had no problems with Xmarks and Safari 4, but there are a few known issues with Safari 4 that cause it to miss sync events. The sync happens successfully, and Safari should see the correct state on a restart.
Feel free to continue reporting Xmarks behavior with Safari 4, and if it's a problem on our end, we'll work hard to fix it in an upcoming release.
Thanks a lot! -
Thanks for the reply.
If Xmarks stopped working after an update to Safari 4, maybe we are allowed to think that Xmarks does have some incompatibilites with Safari 4, even if it only concerns a small percentage.
I longly reported my issue on another thread here, but nobody tried to help me find the problem. -
i have tried a lot of things listed in these forums and nothing works to get safari 4.0.2 & xmarks 1.2.2 to work. if i close & restart safari no sync has occured after trying and when i try i only get error 0, saying it couldn't connect to the server. i do have this working perfectly in firefox on the same computer & others. -
Inappropriate?I have safari 3 and still have this problem. No issues between firefox for mac and PC, but Safari is not syncing. I have the bookmarks up on my.xmarks.com from my last synces, but Safari won't download them automatically, or manually. I've synced numerous times manually.

Inappropriate?Same here: xmarks are not executing at all. I use Leopard, Safari3 and xmarks 1.1.0. After installing xmarks the plugin is not displayed in Safari plugins list.

Dito. The same problem. Just tried to have Xmarks work on my Safari 4 and after a "successful" install I cannot even find the plugin in safari.
Can this PLEASE be fixed ASAP. -
Maybe you should look twice before complaining, because Xmarks is not a "plugin safari" that will show in your Safari settings. It's a standalone app that synchro your OS X bookmarks.
If your install was successful, you might see a "X" icon on the right hand side of your menu bar. If it doesn't show, find "Xmarks for Safari.app" in your Applications folder.
Hope that helps. -
Inappropriate?I have a similar issue, xmarks 1.2, latest Safari beta 4 and OS 10.5.7: it's saying it's done the sync but has in fact done nothing. To test this, I deleted all the bookmarks on the server and then used the Advanced option to overwrite server bookmarks with the local bookmarks. It said it did it, but there are still no bookmarks on the server.
Any ideas, or am I just stuck with Safari 4 issues??
Edit: I tried my laptop which has the same software except for it uses Foxmarks 1.0.0. This did upload the bookmark file. Any thoughts?
I’m bemused

Inappropriate?Sorry, just a further addition to the above. I tried with the same version of Foxmarks as I just mentioned, and it made no difference; my laptop (PB G4) will communicate happily with the server in both directions, and my desktop (G5 quad) won't at all, despite saying it does.
Thoughts as to what I can do to get my desktop communicating would be great! -
Inappropriate? When all else fails, delete Safari plist. Seemed to have fixed it...

Inappropriate?Greetings
This is the file I deleted. Go to your home directory (this is on Mac OS X of course), Llibrary/Preferences and delete com.apple.Safari.plist. You will probably have to check for other preferences which have been lost, but they usually are the cosmetic ones.
Good luck! Nigel

Nigel, you're my hero. Thank you so much to help me see the light !! :-)
It's well known that when some app is not working correctly, first thing to do is to delete the preferences, but on my previous tries I just deleted the folder ~/Library/Safari but didn't check in the Preferences subfolder.
It would be great if Xmarks guys notifies this in some troubleshooting/FAQ page so that other people migrating from 3.0 don't get such problem. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the positive comments folks. But I'm with you, as I didn't think of dealing with the preferences as my first recourse, which I should have done!
-
Inappropriate?I just followed the suggestions below, but they did not resolve my issue (no installing of xmarks on Safari) . I removed Safari from the preferences and restarted. Now Safari crashes after reporting that it failed to install the plugin xmarks. Its worse than before. I use Safari 4 and I tried to install xmarks for Safari 1.2
Xmarks/foxmarks folks: FIX the bug.

Inappropriate?I recall having the same problem installing Xmarks 1.2 for Safari--it gave me an error about another component which forms part of it not installing properly, and then Safari wouldn't start. I haven't had the time to investigate it more; I just went back to Foxmarks 1.0 for the present.
-
Inappropriate?Having had earlier problems with xmarks 1.2, I can report that 1.2.1 seems to have installed fine on my computer.
-
Inappropriate?where did you get the 1.2.1 version?
-
Inappropriate? In my case, it kept telling me that the version I had was out of date, so I agreed and it did the rest. But there is also a check for updates option in the "About" tab on the Foxmarks/Xmarks panel in System Preferences. Have fun!
-
Inappropriate?same problem (unable to get server changes, erro 0). i have safari 4.0.2 and xmarks 1.2.2 installed. this bug is incredibly frustrating. i have tried deleting the preferences as mentioned above, and i can't seem to find a download for foxmarks to try that.
please fix this buy xmarks. does anyone have any other options?

Inappropriate?I just installed 1.3.1 and Safari 4.0.3 on 10.6.1...nuthin'. It wiped out the bookmarks I had migrated w/ Bookdog and reverted back to some weird generic set of bookmarks including a Netscape folder. Still works fine on FF 3.5.3, which is my main browser, so hopefully xmarks folks will get sorted out for Safari at some point.
