xmarks only syncs if I uncheck "remember password"
My Xmarks keeps forgetting my password (even though I've checked 'remember'), and refusing to accept my password unless I uncheck the 'remember between sessions' box. I've tried reinstalling, but the problem came back after a few days. I don't feel like entering my password every time I sync, and just unchecking 'automatic sync' doesn't help.
The weird thing is that when I open the settings window and enter my password, the window won't close when I click "ok" unless either the 'remember between sessions' box is unchecked or I remove my password from the password box. With my password entered and the 'remember' box checked, simply nothing happens when I click "ok", my only option is to click "cancel".
(I'm using Xmarks 3.1.1)

Inappropriate?Hey Daan,
I haven't seen this type of behavior before, what computer setup are you running? Also, do you have other add-ons installed? Another thing you can check for me is if you have any errors listed in your Error Console. You can check it here: Firefox->Tools->Error Console
I'm leaning towards the possibility of your Firefox Profile being corrupted, but hopefully we can get some clues so you don't have to create a profile. However, if you want to start fresh, you can create a new profile by following the directions here:

Inappropriate?Hey Nate, thanks for the quick reply!
I'm running Windows XP prof. service pack 2, with Firefox 3.0.11. Other add-ons I have: AdBlock Plus, Better Gmail 2, Chromatabs plus, Download Statusbar, Fire.fm, Flagfox, IE tab, Link Alert, Rikaichan, and webmail notifier.
I have no errors in my error console, but a lot of warnings:
Warning: Error in parsing value for property 'filter'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://mail.google.com/mail/
Line: 1
Warning: Unknown property 'text-overflow'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&vie...
Line: 1
Warning: Error in parsing value for property 'width'. Declaration dropped.

Line: 1
Warning: Expected declaration but found '*'. Skipped to next declaration.
Source File: http://www.mozilla.com/includes/yui/2...
Line: 8
There are many more of the same sort...
Now that I think of it, it might have something to do with my trying the new firefox beta (3.5) a few days ago -- I uninstalled it because it didn't support most of my add-ons, I wonder if the installation somehow mixed something up with my current version?
Is it possible to create a new profile and keep all my bookmarks and settings intact, or is that what you mean by starting 'fresh'? :P The link doesn't seem to show how to move information from one profile to another.
Thanks again! -
Inappropriate?Hey Daan,
Thanks for the update! The warnings in your error console can be disregarded, as they are pointing to gmail etc. Now that you mention it, I've seen someone's profile was corrupted after trying to upgrade to Firefox 3.5. One of your add-ons may have contributed, but I think it might've been the upgrade.
If you create a new profile, you'll have to re-install all your add-ons, including Xmarks. The good thing is that once you've installed Xmarks, and sync you'll have all your bookmarks and passwords in your new profile. The downside is the time it takes to re-install everything, but it might outweigh the cost of the weirdness in your current profile. Let me know if you need any help!
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Hey Nate,
Yes, I guess the upgrad was probably what did it. Silly enough, xmarks has gone back to working like it used to, so it seems the problem solved itself! Though, I expect it will come back at some point, so I'll probably re-boot my profile then. I don't mind reinstalling everything, so thanks for the tip!
