PMOG is an infinite game built on individual network histories, transforming our web surfing into ongoing social play. With a game head-up display in Firefox, players can bomb each other, wage war over web sites, and lead other users on web missions. Ordinary web sites become caches for items and currency. PMOG fuses an MMO into our WWW.
PMOG stands for Passively Multiplayer Online Game. Players play without playing; clicking around the internet turns into experience points and currency.
Feature request: please add a mechanism for ignoring a specified list of other players. This would have the effect of making all their actions completely invisible to you: you don't receive messages from them; nothing they have done shows up in your searches; you don't see their portals, lightposts, crates, or missions; you do not trip their mines; they cannot leave anything on your profile or attach a St. Nick to your character. If the ignored player attempts to interact with you they should receive a notice that you are ignoring them, and they shouldn't lose the tool they tried to use (if any).
I realize that this could take some of the fun out of the game - a player could theoretically ignore almost everyone and thus render themselves immune to mines etc. - but I think you can rely on people to realize that that wouldn't be any fun, and play accordingly. And there *will* be griefers, so we need defenses against them.
Oh, also, to the maximum extent possible, ignore lists should work by *player* instead of *character*, so you can ignore someone and all their sockpuppets go away too.
I'm having a few problems (mostly cosmetic) using the beta PMOG with firefox 3 (technically, a trunk build - user-agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008041610 Minefield/3.0pre ).
1) The wood background for the toolbar does not load. This is more than a trivium because it means the words on the toolbar are very hard to read since they're yellow on light gray.
1a) Changing the toolbar skin to "plain" and logging out and back in does nothing.
2) Various pages at pmog.com fail to detect that the extension is installed and thus display warning banners like "You must have the PMOG addon installed to take any Missions."
3) The portal animation locks up the entire browser. I'd like it to go faster or at least allow me to switch tabs while it's running (loading the new page in the backgrounded tab).
4) When the portal animation is done, there's a brief flash of the old page before the new one loads.
I'm superduper excited about PMOG. But it's creating chaos (not the good kind!) on my browser (Firefox/2.0.0.13 on WinXP) after installing the addon:
+ Most actions I take (adding acquaintances, trying to create a forum post) return 500 errors. I see that my acquaintances were added anyway, but I'm not sure why I keep getting the errors.
+ After installing the toolbar, my Gmail content was resized (to 2/3 the width of the window) even though the toolbar itself remained full screen. No other windows were affected.
+ Everything just started running like molasses, esp windows with Java or Flash apps. Even after rebooting. Uninstalling the toolbar fixed that right up.
So for now, no PMOG for me, sadly. Looking forward to it in future iterations, though - it looks great.
Error 500! happens everytime i take my own mission in order to test it. i thought this was happening only because i was level 1 but it's the same since i'm 2, seems i just can't create a mission...
could any one help me about this ?
THANKS
Not sure if this is in the making and/or a bug. But perhaps it's an idea to automatically close the window when you dismiss a mission. Currently, this is not the case and you would still need to click the X to close the window.
what's with the badges going haywire? Both me and a colleague have received badges for stuff we haven't done (including being awarded the "Indie" badge whilst actually on Google!, gaining the alpha badge for no reason and getting the "science-it works" badge despite not going on it). The one badge I did actually go for (boing, boing- logged on for about 10 straight days) i still haven't been awarded. What gives?
Invite from my account isn't working, sadly. I tried twice to send an invite to my friend Chad, and though it claims to have sent the message, he just isn't getting it. Any idea what's going on? He's chad /at/ brightlycoloredfood.com, if that helps.
While taking missions I frequently open the "read more..." box for the additional info. The problem I have is that my eyesight isn't the greatest and the contrast between the text and background is low enough that I literally can't read it.
I signed on tonight on PMOG and I found that my alpha and beta badges were missing?
is there a reason for this????
I was under the impression that once you earned the badges, they couldn't take them away... is that correct?
Since I installed PMOG Firefox has frequently frozen, pushing CPU usage up to 100% and memory usage to around 600,000k. It looks to be when there is a pop-up window on a site (happened on Amazon when viewing a larger image of a book cover).
Any ideas? I'd rather not uninstall PMOG.
I recently posted a new mission. I previously had a mission on the top-rated list, and now it has vanished. I was top-rated #5, however I can now no longer get to it at all by browsing through the top rated list.
I was at level 2 and all of a sudden I lost some earned data points and I went down a level, also The datapoints needed to reach next level hasn't changed . Why is this?
