Why can't my lat/lon data be mapped?
I uploaded two versions of a CSV file containing lat/lon data. Both were accepted as valid. I can't map either of the created layers; the "Add to Map" and "Make a Map" buttons are greyed out in Maker! and Finder!, respectively. Why? I can find nothing in the manual that helps me.

Eric, Is the dataset set to private?
if so, it will not allow you to map, as of right now, all maps are public on GeoCommons, so if you're data is private it will not allow you to map it, beacause this would make your private data available to others.
if you would like to keep the data private you could upgrade to a GeoIQ appliance.
if you would like to make the data public:
in your dataset profile click the 'edit' button.
next click the allow anyone to see data button located just above the dataset description.
Save.
hopefully this helps, if not - let us know and we'll get back to you.
Will request that this gets added to the documentation - thanks for pointing this out.

That was exactly it. Thank you! It was indeed completely not obvious to me that data had to be public to be mapped, so adding that to the documentation is a great idea. -
Inappropriate?I had the same confusion. Definitely adding it to the documentation would help. Even better, adding a tip on the upload page next to the private option or even greying out the option if you're not a GeoIQ user would be even more helpful.

Good point about adding it to the documentation (and Bill is fast at work updating all of our videos. he's a rock star like that :)
The reason we don't grey it out is that people can still upload data and keep it private, which is why the "Make a Map" button isn't visible.
