Associating the widget with a specific product/service
It would be really helpful to be able to create a widget for a specific product or service.
Our company name is totally different from our product name, which is the name our users know us by. We're also in the process of launching a sister website where we would need feedback functionality as well, but without having it mixed with the feedback of the main website.

Inappropriate? That's a good idea, and it's one that we've thought about.
We've often had requests like this -- even some folks who want a totally product-specific site. Joby accomplished this with their Zivio Help Center: http://support.myzivio.com/helpstart.php
I'm not sure how we can accomplish this for the Feedback Widget, but it seems like it would be easy enough. I'll share this with everyone here and see what they think.
-
Inappropriate? Not yet, Ben. If we get this going (or finished), I'll be sure to put an update here.
-
Inappropriate?Just wanted to reiterate that this is in the short list of things we are planning to develop. I hope that this will be done in the next several weeks.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Yes please, that's exactly what we would need as well. We have product-specific websites and pre-selecting the product in the feedback widget would mean everything to us!
-
Inappropriate?And... its a month later and nothing. This is a deal-breaker of an issue for me. I'm replacing a custom form with this widget, but almost all of my users do not take the time to check off the correct product and therefore I have no way of distinguishing feedback for one product from another even though the widgets are on product-specific pages.
Until I'm able to make a product-specific widget, I'll have to go back to my custom forms.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I'm sorry, Lucas, that we're not moving as fast as you like on this one. It's something we want to do, but we have a lot to do with limited resources. I'll check and see if there has been any movement on this one.
-
Inappropriate?Wanted to update you.
The development folks are working on the prototype now. Once that's done, we'll need to test it and deploy it for a specific project, and then we'll either fold the capability that we've built into the Feedback Widget or provide a custom widget that incorporates product details. So, it's in progress for sure, but we still have to make sure it's solid before we release it, and that requires some testing.
In short, we can't promise that it will be ready in the next few weeks. I think it will take longer than that, as it's a bit complex. If it's a deal-breaker for you, as Lucas contends it is for him, I don't want to raise your expectations. But, it's coming along. I'll do my best to share what I know when I know it. Thanks for your continued patience. -
Inappropriate?Thanks for the update.
The fact you offer (sub-category) products for a company and then don't offer a feedback form for those products is the exact reason I don't use the feedback form on any of my projects. -
Inappropriate?Any news on this one yet?
-
Inappropriate?I don't have an update about when this will be ready, but if I can pull in someone who has a date to share, I will.
-
Chairs for the reply. -
Inappropriate? One more thing... is there any way you can provide an HTTPS version of the widget.. We have an HTTPS site and when we add the widget our users get a security warning in IE 6.0 complaining about the mixed protocols.
I’m anxious
-
We are working on HTTPS support. See here: http://getsatisfaction.com/getsatisfa... -
Nice one.. I've joined that discussion now too. -
Inappropriate?Hi
Shame this hasnt progressed after 6 months especially after you had a prototype after 3...
One short term measure would be:
1. Allow options in the Widget Code to:
a. Display the Add More Details Panel OPEN - you can make this closed by default to appease current user:
b. Make an option to make the Choosing of a PRODUCT required - cant see this being too hard. Just some simple JS validation and an option to hide or display the (Optional) text
c. Option for us to choose the product listing ie we have 50 products we can pass in an array notation of the product(s) we want to list in the add more details section
d. Option to place the product selection above the mood selection - again just some JS stuff.
Could actually probably do this with Greasemonkey. So I cant see the above steps being too difficult and ones you could release pretty quickly to satisfy most of our needs for Product related Topics.
As always though what sounds easy for one person may in essence be quite complicated on your side - I am though pretty confident that these changes only require modification of JS code to display the widgit differently and with a few more options.
The implementation you have now in essence is quite worthless in terms of product specific boards and using the widgit and I feel you should have addressed this with more urgency.
Cheers
Ian

Inappropriate?Hi Ian, we have actually completed the implementation of product-specific widgets, and are just completing testing. If you ping me directly [thor at getsatisfaction.com], I can give you early access to it.
Looking at this thread it's obvious that this is one of those tasks that was not elevated to an actual project until recently. We'll be posting a proper short-term product roadmap for our customers very soon that will provide more real visibility to everyone than we've had in the past.
In case others missed it, we also released SSL support for the widget last week.
I’m joyous
-
Inappropriate?How is this coming along?
We are launching a new version of our website and will be previewing it for some of our users. We want to use the gsfn widget without mixing the feedback from the new site with the existing one.
I’m curious
-
Hi Jacob - If you're interested in doing a private beta of this widget, shoot thor an email - thor@getsatisfaction.com -
Inappropriate?I have been testing this and have had no issues so far. Thor what is the release date on this?
I’m thankful
-
Hi Ian - It's released, just in private beta form at the moment. Glad it's working for you. -
Inappropriate?Sounds like something that'll work great for my company as well.
I'm a rather new user of GS, but noticed something in the widget's javascript code, having to do with a 'product' options directive. Is this what I hope it is, or its base setup waiting for server-side support?
If it should already be released, I'm probably just messing up, please let me know how and what to do then. Otherwise, any ETA yet?
I’m curious and hopeful
-
Tim, give me a shout at eric [at] getsatisfaction [dot] com if you want to be on the beta test list, and I'll set you up. -
Inappropriate?I'd be interested in participating in the beta test as well. I have employed GS for my first product, and am about to launch my second, so... :)
I’m a wee bit giddy, no really.
-
Shoot me an email! eric [at] getsatisfaction [dot] com. -
Done, thanks! Looking forward to it. :) -
Inappropriate?I also would like to participate to the beta test, I'll send you an email
-
Inappropriate?Hey, everyone. Just wanted to let you know that our product-specific widget is now out of beta testing. So, thank you to all of you who signed up to try it out, and for all of your feedback. Appreciate it!
-
Inappropriate?Eric, how would one implement the product-specific widget?
ETA: Oh, I see - so the only way for me to get this feature is to pay $99/month? That's incredibly lame... this is, to me, a very basic feature. I would consider upgrading to the $19/mo plan for it, but not for $99/mo.
I guess I will have to either create a new company for this product or find a new solution.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Tim: I am sorry if this seems incredibly lame. The product-specific widget's code is configurable from the admin section. Products are all listed in a drop-down box, and you can simply choose the one you like and then generate the code. Thanks for your price point feedback. I'll definitely share this with the product team.
-
$99/mo just seems like an incredibly high price point when this is the ONLY feature I want to use in that list. -
(And obviously there's no dropdown if I'm not using a Pro version of the widget.) -
Yeah, 99$ a month for a clearly not enterprise-only feature is very ridiculous. -
Inappropriate?I agree it's lame... it shouldn't be an enterprise-only feature. Would pay $20/month but not $100.

-
Inappropriate?I agree on lameness. This feature is how I expected get satisfaction to work, and as someone who is hoping to grow into a larger account at some point this could be a feature the drives me to a competitor before I even make it that far.
-
Inappropriate?Agreed with the above. Having this feature as pro only makes it very difficult for free users such as freelancers and startups who simply cannot afford the $99/month.
For my own situation I am a startup freelancer who is about to launch my first commercial product. I am hoping to use GetSatisfacton for it, as well as my open source projects and services. I've enjoyed using GetSatisfaction for Paymo and I'm hoping to enjoy the same benefits for my own. Depending on how the implementation and results go I would be willing to get the promote subscription as it would definitly be a bonus to have it's features. However the feature mentioned here is essential for my business, as without the ability to link the widget to a product it becomes very difficult for myself and users to use GSFN effectively (especially without moderation tools, it would become extremely difficult for basic users to manage our products) - I can't see how this benefits anyone.
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hi Benjamin,
If you only have one product, I'm curious why you need the product specific widget? Our free plan includes our general feedback widget which can go anywhere on your site. And you can set your one product as your default product which will then automatically attach it to all new topics created in your community unless the author of the topic explicitly removes the product association.
We like to think that Get Satisfaction grows with your needs from a one product startup to a multinational conglomerate with hundreds of products and that our widget offerings reflect that.

Hi Amy, thanks a lot for the reply.
Well I actually have only one commercial product, however several other projects (mostly open-source) I would like to use GSFN with - including my own website and services (not just projects and products).
Today my company was claimed here so a bunch more features have opened up. It would seem that it is rather easy right now to just add the products to the question once the question has been submitted, however having product specific widgets would be a nicer touch definitely as it would help streamline the process.
I've tried the default product suggestion, however I don't notice any change... Everything still behaves as normal, and submissions are added to the company rather than the default product - however this is desirable for the multiple projects issue.
Thanks :-) -
Inappropriate?Hi Benjamin,
You're welcome. Even with the product specific widget, topics would be added to the main company community space. They would just also be associated with that product. The current GS hierarchy is company on top, products & services underneath that. So all topics live in the company space regardless of their product association. You can also see a view of only the topics associated with a particular product by navigating to that product's page. Think of it as a filter, similar to tags. You can also supply a direct link to your product's page. For instance, if I wanted to just point people to topics about our Feedback Widget, I'd give them this link: http://getsatisfaction.com/getsatisfa...
However, all the topics there also exist in our main company space: http://getsatisfaction.com/getsatisfa...
I hope that clarifies things a bit!
