Big changes to topic searching and posting.
Hey, have you noticed we've made some changes around here? We just pushed out a big upgrade to the search and topic posting functionality.
Specifically: Instead of a big search/entry box at the top of the page (which sometimes could get confusing -- is it post? is it search?) we now have a much cleaner "Start a topic" button you can use. And it still does suggested topics, but now it does it real-time as you type in your topic.
Along with this, we've made searching for topics much easier to do in the header. We also (finally) have a page full of search results for each company that you can use, and if you don't find the answer you're looking for, we also make it really easy to start a topic from the search page.
Really interested to hear what you think about the changes! Post your thoughts/ideas/suggestions right here and let's talk about 'em.

Inappropriate?sounds good but it would be nice if it worked in my ie. 7 - i get javascript errors and didnt in the old page. -
Inappropriate?Bring back the BIG box! Hehe purely selfish reason, i was just this morning integrating it into my our site and that was in my design but hey the new stuff works but i do like a more obvious section and maybe you could have just put search button or start topic button in next to big box.
I am new to this and i would actually like to put a thank you on our help page as it is powered by you. Our site is having a major overhaul and will change for March so i think you guys and gals should be on there for helping us out. a quick thank you message at the bottom and a cool link to get satisfaction.

Inappropriate?hi, neil! we're going to bring the big box back on some of the pages, just not all of 'em, because on some pages (particularly, individual topic pages) we felt like the big box got in the way of the main content of the page.
we definitely plan to bring it back on the main company and product pages, but are there other places where you feel like it would be of real help?

Change "Start a New Topic" to "Start a new a) Question, b) Idea, ..." etc, saving a click. One presentation of this approach could be ...
After search for a question, below the question box can change the "Didn't find what you want/not quite..." message to
"Not quite it? Add a new: " then a row of the four icons (question, idea, topic, etc), with mouseover/etc, that wnen click start a new topic of that type.
I’m hoping this can be added, but will live if not :-)

The current method of posting is almost identical to the version mentioned in this thread. you're not missing anything.

I was using the word "searching"...! I've nowhere seen one...do you?...Maybe I should've written "big SEARCH box"...will do that next time... ;-p

I don't know what you mean? The topic title is "Big changes to topic SEARCHING and posting", Lane talks about the search box changes in paragraph two and I also "reference" with my reply to the posts #2 and #6 of Neil Kay-Jones!

Lane and Neil are talking about a box that doubled up searching and posting almost exactly as we currently have. Trust me, the box that Neil was sad about is back in a company's home page.

Ok, erm, then I interpreted something wrong into it, as I thought Neil was talking about the general company search box. Should've not surf so much on GSFN on awful times of day. ^_^
