Can I control the message that my company shows to users in the sidebar callout box?
I don't always want to show the last employee-started topic in the dashed box in the sidebar. Is it possible to make a certain topic sticky in that box.
Here's my use case:
1. Flickr is having some troubles tonight, so I posted an advisory notice on GS.
2. Then, I decided to write up some FAQs as Idea posts.
3. The callout box now shows the last FAQ I wrote, rather than the most relevant advisory notice.

Inappropriate?Excellent question, Fraser. Unfortunately you can not control it other than by controlling your last posted topic. However, that will change. This is just our first version of this feature. We absolutely have plans to give you more control. I'll let someone from the product team chime in with a timing estimate.
I’m glad you asked

Inappropriate?Speaking from the product/design side: Unfortunately, I can't give you a timeline quite yet, but we're working on company tools over the entire summer so we intend to make it happen somewhere in there.
I’m wishing we had another engineer or two!

Inappropriate?Thanks for the responses.
If you're working on company tools, I have a couple of other things that I would find useful:
1. The ability to 'bless' a user's idea as a post endorsed by the company. I recently had a user add a great writeup on using FlickrExport with GPS units (http://tinyurl.com/3m2cje) and I wanted to call it out as something I really liked. All I could do was comment and say "we implemented it", but I really wanted to be able to click something to say "Connected Flow likes this a lot".
2. The ability to have a block of "welcome" text on the company page. I'd like to be able to direct users to certain places (e.g. my FAQ tag page).
3. Finally, I think there should be some cutoff for the length of text that shows up in the lists of topics. One user recently posted an entire Mac crash log - hundreds of lines long - into a problem report (http://tinyurl.com/3hgxlf). I apprecated them doing so, since it helped to find the problem, but it realyl blows out any list of topics it appears in.
I’m really happy with GS so far.

all good ideas! we're working a lot on company tools this summer, and while the final feature set isn't totally settled yet, we'll definitely get these on the list and see what we can do.
also, as for #3: we have a new version of the company home page coming out in the next few weeks that will solve the problem, promise. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the great suggestions, Fraser.
So for #1 you're requesting there be something more than the ability to set the status on the idea (eg: Right now, if a topic is posted as an "idea" company reps can select from a drop-down: "No plans for it", "We'll think about it", "We're working on it" or "We implemented it"). But an additional button or something that just lets the user know you think it's a great idea?
I think #2 is a great idea and I know something like this has been discussed in the past. I'll definitely bring this back up with the product design team.
I completely agree on #3. We may already have something in the works but, again, I'll check in with the product design team.
As a side note: If you posted each of these as a separate "Idea" topic we could set the status on each and you could more easily track their progress. :)
Keep the suggestions coming as they occur to you!
I’m really glad you're happy with GS

For #1, it might be fine just to add "A company representative really likes this!" as an option in the status popup. -
Thanks, Fraser. Noted! I'll be sure the design team sees this. -
Inappropriate?Hi again. Regarding your request:
"2. The ability to have a block of "welcome" text on the company page. I'd like to be able to direct users to certain places (e.g. my FAQ tag page)."
I also wanted to add that in the meantime, you can use the Company Description and external links provided on your company home page for this purpose. You can edit those in your admin area. We've seen a lot of companies add "FAQ" as an URL and link it to a list of topics in their Get Satisfaction area that are filtered by the tag "FAQ".
I’m hoping this provides a quick solution for you
