Get Satisfaction adds ads
This has been the week of the Revenue Model. We've rolled out our first version of our Premium Services and now we're rolling out ads. Here's what they look like:
Who can see these ads you may ask? Non logged-in users or users coming from a Google search. However, if a company has purchased one of our premium packages, ads will never be seen in their area.

Inappropriate?Hi Amy! I got word of the ads from Eric's post on the blog.
I have to say, they've been implemented in an extremely low-key way. I didn't log-in purposely to see them, but I went through about 5 or 6 different pages before seeing even one!
The tone of both your and Eric's posts seem apologetic, so I'd like to tell you that I think it's been done very unobtrusively. But having said that I also want to add that, as a marketer, I think you may have over-done it!
Maybe it's because you chose to put the ad-boxes "in line" (same column as your main content). If you'd put them off on either the left or right margin, you could show them more frequently and (in my opinion) even show them to logged-in users. I really do think people 'get" the whole ad-supported / freemium thing.
I’m here, i'm there...

Inappropriate? Thanks for the support and the feedback, Rene. I'm sure we'll try out some different options along the way. We wanted to start as unobtrusively as possible and see where that gets us.
I’m glad for the support & input

Inappropriate? Are ads seen by community administrators? The issue I'm having is that I always see ads, even when I'm logged in. Is this by design to annoy me to consider buying premium version more or a bug? :)

Inappropriate?Jure: Yes, ads are seen by employees. Logged-in customers won't see ads, but employees will see ads in their company's section.

Inappropriate?I am wondering if there is any way to block our competitor's ad from appearing on our pages? Is the only way we can do it buying a premium plan? I tried putting excluded terms in my Overheard section of the profile, but it had no effect.
I’m frustrated.

Inappropriate?Hi PocketMacAnne,
Overheard is a completely separate feature that pulls in feeds from Twitter Search and has no bearing on ads. No, there's no way to control which ads show up. *We* don't even have control over which ads appear, it's run by Google AdSense.
Ads are how we supplement the free communities in Get Satisfaction so yes, if you want ads removed you'll need to upgrade to a premium package.
Do remember, though, that ads are not displayed for users who are logged in and viewing your Get Satisfaction customer community. You will see them there just so you know how it looks for non logged in users.
