Give your users a powerfull way to influence product features and roadmaps.
One thing that would be great for GetSatisfaction to offer (apart from asking questions, sharing ideas, reporting problems and starting discussions) would be to allow a products users to create and sugest a road map for a product.
What does that mean?
Suppose you have a web 2.0 service for instance; with thousands of users that request features. It would be great if the requested features could be ranked by everyone participating, in a priority scale and then be sorted by priority so that the company has an idea of the product's road map as it's users would like to see it evolve.
Company's employees would be able to link requested features together so that not only priotiry is taken into account, but implementation prerequisites too.
So users (customers) set priorities, company sets prerequisites, roadmaps are derived and suggested.
You can later add more stuff to the game like company performance on suggestions etc. The new service can be implemented as a part (or an extension) of your "share an idea" line.
Think about it ;-)
Companies might not like it at first having to take into account a serious user roadmap, but everyone will benefit at the end cause users will get a better chance to seek satisfaction.

Inappropriate? We want this, too! Some of what you suggest is already in the works, btw. Stau tuned.

Hi Thor! Came over to this page because it was right on-topic for a previous discussion I was checking on.
Don't want to be a nag but this thread hasn't moved much either... -
It's true, the designs we have for these features haven't yet been prioritized for development. We have spent the past several months implementing features that are key to our immediate business model (i.e. sales). We are still looking forward to implementing more features like these, and will be communicating more pro-actively about our own roadmap going forward. Thanks for the nudge. -
Inappropriate? This is a great idea, and one that has sparked (re-sparked, actually) a lot of internal discussion at the Get Satisfaction office. We love this idea because it's really transparent, it's a huge community builder, and it actually should get things done!

Also, we need it to make our own dynamic product roadmap transparent! -
Inappropriate?I'm glad to see that this idea I submitted 10 months ago is actually being considered for implementation.
I'll be happy to see it evolve. It will be fun to be able to actually draft the future of a product. I believe that lots of people will contribute and try to influence the roadmap of a product or a service they need. To the extend that companies actually maintain and use this stream of input, this service is going to be a real asset for a certain type and size of them. It will also provide a metric for a company's ability or even willingness to drive production towards demand. There is lots of numbers, animation and useful visualisations you can do in the future with a structure like that. And, since we are now crossing the Free-is-not-enough Land, this line can actually provide you with an opportunity to charge companies for a fee to access a premium service with more detailed insight and tools.

Excellent points, particularly about visualizations. -
Inappropriate?Something related that I've suggested elsewhere - a possibility for customers to influence the speed of work on approved, planned features by voting with money - if you want a feature to go up on the chart you vote by donating any sum you decide. The feature with most votes, e.g. most money goes top on the priority list.
This could be a way to support the development of applications created by small companies with limited financial and human resources.

Maybe customers who pay us could get complimentary dollars as well to vote on the ideas and features they want to see.
