How can I edit a posted question?
I can't seem to edit a question I posted yesterday. I realized there was a typo in the product name.

Happy news: this is in the queue for implementation in the immediate future. I'll update when it's done.

You can edit your own topics or replies for 15 minutes. We plan on extending this to an indefinite time period and simply put changes in the Change Log, but for now, there is a 15-minute limit for edits.
Sorry if this is an inconvenience, and you can always call on me to help make any changes, either here or at eric [at] getsatifaction [dot] com.

Inappropriate? This is an incredible inconvenience. . .Especially for reporting problems. Instead of editing the same post, you must post to your own thread multiple times.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This is definitely inconvenient, especially if you made a simple typo that you didn't catch until later.

Inappropriate? We plan on changing this so that you can edit indefinitely, but unfortunately I don't have a time frame for when that will be done. It is planned, but not scheduled yet.

Inappropriate?Hi, any update on this topic? We need to maintain post posts such as updating hyperlinks and so on. We need to be able to edit past posts, at least for the administrators. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate? No updates, Philippe, but I'm going to make this the canonical topic on the subject and try to merge some topics into this one so we can hopefully grow this idea and build momentum for getting our expanded Change Log in place to allow for ongoing edits.

Thanks Eric -
Inappropriate? Please explain how to edit or delete a post that mistakenly has personal and private information on it.

Inappropriate? Can a list moderator edit a question (for spelling - ie, company name spelled wrong?) and to streamline questions so that there is less chance for duplicates? Not sure if this is do-able with paid accounts? Thanks!

Inappropriate?Any eta on this yet? Really is a key feature, especially for company answered questions.

Inappropriate? No. I do not yet have an update. I am consolidating (merging) other topics into this one so that I can hopefully grow this idea and get it more attention.
-
Inappropriate?I agree, this is seriously annoying...

Inappropriate? Will moderators be able to edit other people's topics posted to their company when this is implemented? Or will they only be able to edit their own? We've seen a lot of actual questions followed by a link or some snippet of spam. I'd like to be able to clean out the spam but leave the question in tact.
-
Inappropriate?I am not sure yet, Jamie. My thought is that you will be able to edit your own content indefinitely, but not other peoples' content. However, there has been talk of making it work the way you envision it. Good and bad sides of both ways.

Inappropriate?Just wanted to follow up on my reply and say that this is my own opinion. I will ask someone from the product team to weigh in here and let you know more definitively what our plans are. Thanks for your patience.
-
Thanks for weighing in. I really appreciate Get Satisfaction's commitment to transparency and totally understand why you have to be careful when implementing this type of functionality. :) -
Inappropriate? Thanks, Eric. We've changed our philosophy on this over time. The feature update we're working on provides additional editing of topics by moderators, both their own topics and those of their users. We have seen that many users will inadvertantly post private information or other errors (and sometimes spam) in otherwise acceptable posts, and we want to allow moderators to correct for the benefit of the customer and the community. However, we will do it in a way that speaks to real transparency through the public edit log.
Thanks for the great question, Jamie. -
I'm excited for this functionality to get implemented. It sounds like a good balance between transparency and quality control. -
Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
I see that this was planned for the "immediate future" 3 months ago.
I have a valid question on my site, but the user inadvertently posted private information and neither she nor myself are able to edit the post to hide it.
I have reported as inappropriate, but I think that's a nasty workaround / manpower intensive hack. -
Inappropriate?Hi, Henk. This was, in fact, implemented. Now, users (and employees, for that matter) can edit their own topics and replies and comments. Also, note that if you use the moderation tools, you can remove topics if you have privacy concerns. I will edit the information you have flagged.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the prompt reply Eric,
I suspect the user didn't see the option. Thanks for the fix.
Best,
Henk
I’m thankful
