It would be helpful to explain this preemptively : ) Seems a bit mysterious at the moment!

Great question, Tom. And thanks for pointing out that this is a point of confusion!
We confirm employment or affiliation with the company first by doing an email address match. If you have supplied us with an email address that matches the official domain of the company and have then verified that email address by clicking the link in the verification email that you receive, we know that you are legit and your employee claim will be manually approved.
If you are unable to supply us with an email address that matches your company's official domain, we get in touch with you and work to find another way of to verify your affiliation.
If you do supply us with a matching email address but have not verified it, we will email you at that email address and ask you to reply to that email so that we can verify you're the owner.
All of this is a manual process done by one of our community managers which is why we say it can take up to four business days.
Please let me know if that explains it sufficiently or if you have any additional questions about this!
I’m grateful for the feedback

Inappropriate?Another fantastic question. You're assisting me in writing some much-needed help documentation around this process! :)
So when you claim the community, you'll have the opportunity to put your work email address in as your "claim" email. Once you submit that claim form, an automated email will be sent to that email address with an email verification link in it. Click that link and then your email address will be verified. That will add you to the queue that fast tracks you for approval by our community manager.
It still make take a business day or two, but definitely faster than the alternative. If you're really eager and just can't wait, ping me here after you've done set up your community and claimed it and give me your community URL. I'll see what I can do about speeding it up.

Inappropriate?Wow I finally managed to find where I can do that - very well hidden behind a tiny little triangle.
