How to moderate GetSatisfaction
Recently Eric have deleted some of my comments saying they were inappropriate and Spammy! That a few other users have objected to what I was saying and the links that I was putting in the messages.
Eric posted to me that he may start deleting some of my comments, but he posted the message in a company product that I created.
I found that inappropriate because it had nothing to do with the company but with my actions. He since deleted the exchange that we had on that thread.
For future cases it would be better to post such commentry in GetSatisfaction thread like I am doing now and notify a user that a talk has been started that they should come and partisipate. Notification can be done via email, but that will only alow employees of GS to do it. It would be good to devise a a mechanisem to alert a user that a discussion that was started in a thread requests that user partisipation. I guess something like a poke on FaceBook.
Also alerting by email or discussing an issue by email is not transperancy, as advised by Eric.
Now to the issue of my comments and the links. I administar an anti Spam project PHSDL, so I have no reason to Spam any discussion board. I use references to articles that would make a point in the discussion I perticipate.
If I am going to refer to the US constitution, should I post the whole constitution in the comment?
Also chalenging small companies and big companies should be of equal plane.
We cannot show favortisim to Google, MySpace, FaceBooks, of Yahoo just because they are the big boys on the internet. Same goes for giving praise to companies when they do good!
We all come from different walks of life and different life experience, and we all talk and walk differently..:)
When one preson uses tongue and chick some may understand it, while others may not, others may even get offended. But via communication we learn new things.
Open communication is the key to the growth of this community, not he said this, and she said that, and I like him, and I do not like him!
I am a WikiPedian and on Wikipedia we decide by consensus not by electral, that is what makes WikiPedia authoritative.
If a boss tells a community what to do, the members are not free to say what they want. If top members or the regulars tell the community what to do, they are hoarding power. When a community votes up or down a user or a discussion the process may not always be fair because many users may not know the whole issue and just jump on the band wagon.
There is a saying and Matt Cutts taught it to me, "Knowledgable minority are more powerful than an ignorant majority," I tend to agree with him on this!
Deleting comments and banning users should only be done as the last, last result, because it ferments a bad atmosphere and reputation for the community. That will make the community no different that the companies that our users come to complain about, because they do not listen to their customer.
Who's at falt, is it that the user who posts comments that are not with the policy of the community? Is it the user, the administrators, the community employees, or the CEO?
One last thing, and this is @Scot, if a post is deleted for what ever reason, you should not have a meta tag noindex nofollow, because that post will get stuck in Google and other search engines, showing the original post for very long time. This would make a person referencing it think that this community is not straight forward and deseptive. If you let Google reindex the post, which should happen in a few days, a few weeks at most, that post url will just show an empty page.
Why is this important, one of my comments that was deleted about a certain company is stuck right under my domai name, which is the user alies that I use on GS. Well I have developers, SEO'e, business people, and Human Rights Activist search me out via Google. If they click on the GS post because they want to know what I had to say about the issue and find it deleted on GS, what will they think of me and of GS?
So as much as GS and all of you putting everything on the line having me participate here, I also put my reputation and my authority on the line by participating here.
Thank you,
Igor Berger

Igor, I would rather play by google's rules in regards to removing pages from their index: specifically http://www.google.com/support/webmast... and http://www.google.com/support/webmast...
We are responding correctly according to both of those answers. Do you have any additional links that refute that info and that I could learn from? Thanks in advance.

Inappropriate?Scot, Google GQG apply to this particular issue as I have recommended.
If a page is changed content it should be reindexed, but how will it be reidexed if you told google not to index it.
Remember you did not make a 404 page not found, but a custome page that says the comapny does not exist!
Are you saying FaceBook does not exist as a company on GetSatisfaction?
Even if you would do a proper 404, which you can easily do in your script, that 404 page will not be updated by Google and will sit stagnated for years. Is that being honest with Google, users, and companies?
So, what I have recommended is to let Google reindex the page. If you have doubt in my recommendation, please consults professional SEOs like Rand Fishkin, David Naylor, Andy Beard, Jehochman. These are some of the professional SEO's that I have learned SEO from.
But you can also ask Adam Lasnik and Matt Cutts and see what they have to say about the issue.
With Google search engi ne evangelists it is not so easy to get the exact responds that you are seeking, because they follow the guidelines which are always updated. So GQG tend to be lagging in practices and more in policy.
Cheers

Inappropriate?Scot I recommend making a custom page for post that have been deleted, "Topic not Found"
But make sure that the page is indexed by google to clear up and update the information.
You should link to this page frrom one of the second tier pages to make sure it gets a strong Google Juice and will be updated daily.
This way if a post have been deleted it will be cleaned from google promptly without caussing inconvinience and embarrassment for anyone.

Inappropriate?Igor, as always, I enjoy reading your comments and value you as a participant. It's always stimulating. I think that what I have been trying to convey is *not* that you are spamming people; rather, that people sometimes don't understand your commentary or purpose (or diction). They sometimes misinterpret your posts as spam -- or "crass commercialism" -- because a few posts have seemed out of context, unintelligible, or appear to be pitches of your own products and services. I am going to think hard on this and try to follow your advice wherever possible. And, I am going to try to be clearer when communicating with you in the future. I definitely think you have some valid comments, and I'm happy to follow up with you offline if that is preferable for you. My apologies if you feel slighted or not heard in this community.
I’m listening

Inappropriate?Eric, no problem, we can do it online, off line, in GS, email, my travel forum, my G group, my soon to be Troll blog...I have no problem where it is done or how we do it,,,as long as we as community communicate with each other.
I also have no problem if a comment is deleted from time to time, because "It may seem out of place," just let me know whats up and it will all be okay!
I think talking about it here in the open is very healthy for everyone.
So yes you may want to start a discussion in private and move it to public so we on the same wave lane!
Thanks
Igor

If a page is changed content it should be reindexed, but how will it be reidexed if you told google not to index it.
Except that, according to google, as specified by the links I pasted above specify that adding a meta noindex to a page already in google index will remove it. As far as I can tell, the GQG that I know of doesn't specifically reference how you should properly signify to google that your content has been removed. I would appreciate links that you can provide to authoritative information, such that I can feel confident in making the change.
Remember you did not make a 404 page not found, but a custome page that says the comapny does not exist!
It is a 404 page. The http response is 404 NOT FOUND:
Swampcat:~ nullstyle$ curl -v http://getsatisfaction.com/foosweds

that 404 page will not be updated by Google and will sit stagnated for years
I can confirm, as fact, that google has removed pages satisfaction pages from our index. For example, we had a rash of ambien spam, and upon deleting those pages they no longer show up in the google index (although there are some different pages with ambien crap from our domain). I would love to have some links that would educate my own the hows and why's about google removing or leaving data in their index.
I would be happy to consult some of the names you mention, but most every link that I can find on the internet tell me to respond exactly how I am responding. None of them talk about letting google reindex the page, yet they all talk about responding with a 404 response and including noindex and nofollow meta tags.
Oh, and Igor... My name is Scott. with two 't's. I would appreciate it if you could address me in my chosen form.
I’m thankful
