I tried refreshing the page and clicking the link again - same behaviour 2 or 3 times.

Inappropriate?I believe what happened is that this reply was deleted by the author, but was still cached and hence visible, so the reply wasn't in the database to be acted upon. Ordinarily the page cache refreshes when any update happens to the page, but it looks like it was delayed in this case.
