Administrators should be able to
1. Remove/edit a tag so we can get some consistent tagging across different posts
2. Edit posts [if nothing else, their own]

    Hi Jeff,

    Those are pretty good ideas. First one first: we'll have a discussion in the office about allowing admins to edit tags. Admins on Get Satisfaction are pretty different from their closest analog online, namely "forum moderators." The main function of an admin on Get Satisfaction is to manage who is recognized as an employee within their company, not to control the content. That said, I think your point is valid about editorializing on the metadata, because you're not changing the content in that case. Still, I think it warrants a conversation in the office, not just a decision from me as a developer to implement that feature request.

    As far as #2 goes, I can answer that now: you can edit your own content, within the editing window or until later content becomes attached to it. that means that if you post a topic, you can edit its content until someone replies. If you post a reply, you can edit it for 15 minutes.

    Maybe you're asking for something more than that with #2? If you're talking about releasing newer, updated information, I suggest posting a new topic for your company. We'll be building a feature that allows companies to deprecate topics, with a corresponding link forward to the latest content. Could a feature like that help accomplish your goals?

    Cameron - thanks for the response. I really like the idea of helping shape the cloud.Tagging in a group setting can get really messy and not very useful if people just annotate some random words. If you have 12 tags that all semantically mean the same thing- perhaps a moderator could help unify them so that future users can more easily follow up.

    Otherwise tags are somewhat useless when you have good fulltext search. IMO

    I like the idea of deprecating topics, but I see the case where I give somebody a set of instructions on how to do something - for instance, capture a crash log. Then in a month, the link to download a tool is broken. However, since then, 15 pieces of conversation have been added to the topic. I'd like to just edit the original post with corrected info, and people coming to the discussion later in the game don't have to sort out what is going on. It'd be weird, conversationally, for me to interject a complete revamp of the instruction, or say "10 posts above, the new link is such and such".

    For me, I want to make what I give my customers as concise and correct as possible. If I need to correct or update previous help, I think I should have the ability to do it. I don't want my customers to have to parse through all this text and updates to see "what the latest and greatest is". Make sense?

    I'm sure you realize there are tradeoffs implicit in your proposal. Specifically, we are first and foremost about building trust, and that is done best through transparency. I'm sure you can see how the ability for admins (or anyone, for that matter) to edit content after the conversation has begun erodes that transparency. That's my main concern with allowing a feature like that to occur.

    Another way to accomplish what you just stated is this:
    Answer a question with a set of instructions and use the company promotion tool to push that to the top as a "best answer from the company." Later, you discover that broken link, so you copy and revise the instructions, post them as a new reply and again promote that reply to the top as a "best answer from the company," meanwhile you deprecate the incorrect answer by removing the "best answer" status from it. The old answer still appears in the conversation, but anyone who's never seen the topic before will encounter your updated solution first.
