New interface loses "edit" timer upon page refresh, comments don't send email notifications
When I post a comment to a reply, the 15 minute timer disappears when I reload the page. I goof occasionally with spelling, and I'll admit it, in my answers sometimes, so not being able to fix something minor (or major!) is a bit harder than it used to be.
Also, comments on replies don't send email notifications, which means as a Support person, it'd be easy for me to miss a reply to something if it was posted in comment form.

Editing has been fixed!
We're still working on changing the semantics of email notifications on comments.

Inappropriate?I think your 15-minute timer should be reloading to show how many more minutes you have to edit your reply (e.g., 12 minutes). Let me try to reproduce this problem.
Also, we did deliberately design the comments to be lightweight messages that go one way -- to the person you're commenting to. They still appear publicly in the conversation, but we do not e-mail everyone in the conversation these short comments.

Inappropriate?Hi Casey,
Sorry about that! Editing & deleting comments is broken right now but we are aware of it and are working on it. -
Inappropriate? No worries, just wanted to point out the edit/delete problem.
As for comments not getting notifications - oh noes! This means I'll actually have to do work to get my job done! Life is pain. ;)
Thanks for your prompt reply, both of you.
I’m <3-ing Get Satisfaction, as usual.

Yes, sorry for my misdiagnosis AND user error. I'm a klutz today. -
You bring up a good point though... Perhaps this is where we enable some more granular controls for choosing what triggers notifications. Leslie had some good ideas about how to do this better. -
Inappropriate?Well, what we're hoping for, Casey, is that if someone has something significant to say they will use the reply feature. We've downplayed comments as we see them as primarily being for quick little asides, affirmations, etc. directed specifically at the person the comment is being left for -- and *that* person will receive an email notification of the comment.
However, we'll be keeping our eye on how they're used. And if you find that you're missing valuable input or that your job has become harder DO let us know! We're trying to make the functionality more useful and valuable and trying to make everyone's jobs easier, not harder!
I’m hoping this new page will make your job easier

Sarcasm is so difficult to convey over the internet. No, GetSatisfaction is a wonderful tool, and does certainly make my job easier. Thank you. -
Yes, Amy, but Scott (your Scott) just replied to one of my comments with a comment of his own. It's a natural thing to do, but, since I didn't make the original reply, I did not get notified of his response. Perhaps both the poster of the original reply *and* the previous commenters could be included in the notifications. -
Good point, Guy. I'll bring that up with the product team. (Hopefully you'll come back to this page and see this since you won't get an email notification. :) -
I like that method of notification. By making a comment you are joining a side conversation, it makes sense to receive emails. -
I have discovered that they *do* show up in my dashboard, so I can check there, rather than having to visit each commented reply separately. -
Oh, good point! That's at least a partial solution until we get the email notification working. -
As for conveying sarcasm on the internet. I propose a sarcasm tag similar to strong or em :). -
Inappropriate?I can attest to the fact that Cam is plugging away on fixing this right now. I'm watching him go!
-
Ah, the perks of being able to poke someone in realtime and get things done! Tell him I think he's doing an awesome job! -
Inappropriate? We've been having a side conversation above -- using comments -- about the fact that everyone involved in a particular comment-based back & forth should receive email notifications when new comments are left.(Very "meta", I know). In the meantime, though, it was pointed out that you will see them on your dashboard.
I’m wondering who's on first.

Inappropriate?Working on it... not solved yet.

Inappropriate?Ok everyone! The bugs should all be fixed and have been deployed. I'm even posting this from IE6 just to be extra sure it works, even in the pickiest of browsers.
I’m happy that's all taken care of
