Well, as they say, that's why they call it a beta. But fear not, we'll be hard at work for a long time to come making Satisfaction everything it can be.
I’m thankful

tacked on friending systems are so passe! satisfaction is going to bubble up all kinds of really interesting connections between people, things they share in common like products or interests, and how people relate to each other like who's an expert you trust and want to follow.
of course we'll make sure you can explicitly follow people and activity that is important to you, but the system won't be so arbitrary as clicking 'friend' buttons, and more emergent like real life friends and connections.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Personally I'm happy to see the site launch without friend relationships.
It reminds me of how LinkedIn has resisted the temptation to add photos to user profiles; they say that the minute they do that it will become a dating site and kill the professional atmosphere. I like the photos here, but I also like that it isn't a contest to see who has the most friends and allows people to be judged on the strength of their content rather than their number of connections.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? It's hard to imagine LinkedIn ever being mistaken for a dating site, even with photos.

Inappropriate?we'll get there, i promise. there's obvious value in connecting people up, and allowing you to follow people you consider friends/experts on a site like this one (and connecting people to companies, people to products, products to companies, etc...)
but, before we started making all these connections in our system, we figured it would be better to create a site that was compelling enough that we'd actually get people in so we could later connect 'em. :)

Inappropriate?Nicely stated.
If you haven't figured out how to keep in touch with your friends at this point even Satisfaction can't help you. I like the idea of following people here based on their contributions and interests rather than just, you know, the fact that you met them at a party once.

Inappropriate? All that discussion aside (I didn't read it), I have to say, it is currently good as it is!
(Except maybe minor details.)
After the discussion with mdy here, I am indeed very sensible about this topic. And I even before that shared his opinion, that the user mustn't be the centre of attention!
And I'd really fear that, if the GSFN team would introduce more "advanced" friend features. Although I might have loved a lot of them of course, this was the reason, I didn't "file a feature request" / just posted a idea concerning this.
In doubt, "never change a running system" and put the emphasis on supporting all around questions and problems and not the corresponding GSFN users!
I’m thankful
