Please respect line breaks in the comments
It's a text area box, it's an expected behavior. Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hey Jason, we have tried to make it clear that the comments are for short asides, but it seems that we probably need to revisit our decisions about how they behave. The design is supposed to hint that they are side conversations, but a number of people have been confused by this and like to use them for full-on replies.
Thanks for the feedback, and we'll be sure to think hard about how comments can be improved when we revisit the design of the topic pages.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Good point, Jason. Comments need a little bit of a revision, IMHO.
We envisioned them as short shout-outs, a way to add emotion-based responses that wouldn't be full-blown replies. But, we haven't, for example, limited the amount of characters you can enter, which would more clearly make them "less" full-featured than replies. As you note, they are less than replies in this manner: line breaks aren't respected.
Perhaps if we make it more clear that comments are less functional than replies, people will use replies when they want to pop in more feature-rich HTML.

Inappropriate?Adding some clarity as to the different purposes of comments and replies would help. I have been experimenting with both and do not see any obvious functional difference, except that comments do not include my avatar or mood.
To me there seems to be no advantage to use comments over replies. -
Inappropriate? We are definitely considering, and discussing in the office, how to redesign replies/comments so they are less confusing and more useful.
I’m replying instead of commenting, too

Inappropriate?Hey there,
the comments shouldn't and don't need to be "full-blown/full-on replies", but just normal comments with line breaking! Not more, not less.
Also for me, it isn't about HTML Eric, although a support of bold & linkable text would be nice yeah. Why? Because, hey, I do have a good intent with comments, I don't want to "disturb" the (rest of the) conversation or add another "bulky" reply, but just make a short, useful statement! :) And this is, kestrachern, by the way, an advantage from my point of view.
Concerning the character limit: Please not! I don't want a Yahoo! Answers-, or even worse, a twitter-"experience" / downside! Nooo!...
Thanks for listening.
Kind regards.
I’m thankful
