Postings aren't filtering by most recent activity
I have my forum set to browse all topics by recent activity but the filter doesn't seem to be working. Instead I have a list that shows some recent postings (i.e. 10 minutes ago) interspersed with much older postings (i.e. 3 days ago). I am on an iMac using 10.5.4 with Firefox 3.

Replies aren't the only way that something can jump to the top of the list. A user can click the "I have this quesiton, too" button and the topic will get bumped up.
I agree with you that it can be confusing, and in the previous iteration of the topic page, we had a long line of text that described why the topic had been bumped up.
The problem was that it was very hard to digest a sentence like "John joined 3 others in having this question 4 minutes ago", and wasn't very scan-able. So we opted to use a simpler label, and forgo having the timestamp for when the latest activity occurred on the topic.
I'd love to hear your thoughts about how we can improve this.
