Refinements for the Overheard feature.
On Overheard, we should automatically remove "Inc" from the search terms. I'm sure there are other common suffixes that we could filter away as well.
Also, it should display what the search terms are on the main Overheard page.

The company has this under consideration.

Inappropriate? It will also be important to exclude twitter usernames from the search criteria. For instance, I may not want my company's tweets appearing in the Overheard feed for my company.
I’m excited
-
or, you might want that. this seems like a better use of the "exclude keywords" feature in the admin section, rather than imposing it on everybody. -

Most definitely this shouldn't be automatic, but it's not as easy as excluding words if the twitter name is the same as the company/product name. Or is it? -
Inappropriate? You might want to make it so I can have my twitter name in my preferences, but not tell every person whom I 'overhear' my twitter name. They may not necessarily be a "nice guy", but I don't have the context to see if their hateful message (usually when someone is having a problem with a product, they may be quite mean, and perhaps that is how they are all the time, so I don't actually want them to start subscribing to me or trolling me normally...) is indicative of a trend.
I’m scared

I could see that being added into an option in the 'advanced' configuration options (if/when we make such a screen). Otherwise, block is your friend :) -
Ah, yes, that's why restraining orders are now taking on the form of advice given to someone who is being bullied in grade school: "just ignore him and he'll get bored and go away". I see. -
Scott: I just had someone respond to me directly with a response instead of using Get Satisfaction. Do you think, yet, that it would be a good idea to remove the 'over-hear-ers' twitter name? -

I get this all the time. I think it's better not because then they'll just reply to GSFN and no-one will see the reply at all. If they replied directly it's probably because they think it's too much of a hassle to register in GSFN so they wouldn't go there anyway
I’m indifferent
-
I actually agree with 'too much of a hassle', but why is that? Why can't we use the method Twitter does, OAuth, to our advantage? -
Do a search on Twitter "to:getsatisfaction" and you'll see a _ton_ of people replying to @getsatisfaction instead of posting in the thread. -
Inappropriate?Could it be set up so that not just admins can use Overheard's 'update now' button? The official reps would like to use it too.
-
Inappropriate?Thomas: Great point. We've actually had a few discussions about this already, and we are definitely open to the idea. We put it on our "can do" list, although it is not slotted on our schedule.
-
Inappropriate?i'd like to make that button available to everybody. talking to cam about doing that in the short term.
-
Inappropriate?Oh! Tweet Scan now supports Identi.ca, but I don't know how to use the API to filter for it. I made a request to filter for that.

Inappropriate?Title field for overheard still confusing for people who aren't familiar with it.
See this may be what you need. I think it is very interesting that scott doesn't want me putting words in his mouth, but it is easy for ANYONE to put words in anyone else's mouth: the topic is set by the user! (Of course, if companies got the chance to edit titles of overheard posts that were overheard by non-employees/reps, that would solve it pretty quickly, I don't expect users to be experts on the intricacies of Overheard)
Honestly, my opinion? Forgo titles, just display the overheard tweet and drop the 'show more'. Use a Wordpress-like slug with unique info (like twitter-twitterusername-tweetid) for those instead of the title (but don't show it), perhaps. It's not like showing a 140 character tweet is going to push all the other posts down very far.
I’m helping
-
Inappropriate?I hear what you say about companies or users creating titles that could be far from what the tweeter might have intended. We encourage them to summarize, but who's to say they'll do that faithfully? That's a good point you make.
Companies won't ever be able to edit Overheard titles, by the way, but I bet we can come up with a better way of clearing up confusion about who's doing the talking and who's pulling in the tweeter.
Thanks!
I’m happy

Inappropriate? It'd be nice if it didn't think I should write one to two paragraphs when I use overheard, because it's counting the length of the tweet (which I cannot extend) and telling me to extend it.
