some people put off by GS's design
What about adding something like a "business visual mode" of GS - that is less colour, no avatars, compact threads, etc.
I happened to suggest to a long-established support forum to migrate to GS because of GS's numerous advantages but the guys there were reluctant to do so. They all agreed that the design of GS did not look serious, too much screen space was wasted, too much clutter. Unfortunately the design had made such a negative impression on them that they missed to see the plenty of useful features here on GS. (You can read the debate here: http://www.microsoft.com/office/commu...). I myself would prefer a more compact mode without avatars.

Inappropriate?Hi Uzzer,
Thanks for beating the GS drum over there, and giving us this direct insight into that feedback. We've noticed that some traditional forum users have strong opinions about this subject :) We certainly would prefer everyone to love us for who we are, but I expect that's a tall order no matter what we do.
Our current solution to supporting alternative design needs is to provide access to our open API to allow others to reskin or extend the system in any way they like. We even have a starter kit with Help Center: http://getsatisfaction.com/for_compan....
As for the primary design, instead of stark efficiency our aim is to deliver an outcomes-focused approach to online conversation that avoids the impersonal, cold tone of the traditional forum. In our research we concluded that the general public are put off by tech support forums, but enjoy the more social interactions on blogs, social networks, photo sharing sites, etc. We have drawn from these and other sources in designing Get Satisfaction in order to engage a much wider audience. Still, it's an ongoing effort and we'll certainly keep your excellent feedback in mind as we refine the site.
Keep it coming!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I see, thank you. Well, then what about a request toGS users who happen to tamper with the API to "donate" a skin with a more "boring business look" for the general GS?
I’m thankful

Hey, uzzer, I've been reading through the Microsoft forum you link to, and it is interesting. Nice responses you gave.
