Somebody should write a Mac desktop app for Get Satisfaction using our API.
Ooo, Get Satisfaction has a simple REST API! Someone should write a Cocoa desktop app. http://developers.getsatisfaction.com/

Hi all, I made an iPhone app for interacting with Get Satisfaction! You can see it here:
http://satisfactionremote.com/
And download it in the App Store ($1.99):

Inappropriate?Or perhaps an Adobe AIR implementation that works on Windows, too!
-
Nah. Really slick native apps are where it's at for this sort of thing. Twitterrific is why I use Twitter; lack of a slick native app is why I never bothered trying Pownce. -
I agree with you Chris. If I was holding a Native App in one hand, and an Air app in the other, the Native app would go in my right hand :p -
Why not both? -
Both is fine with me. -
I think AIR would be a great platform for this given the fact that it's multiplatform.
I've just created a Flex/AIR library for GetSatisfaction, and I'd like to know what features exactly you'd like. -
I've actually done that myself, but a real native Mac app would be great too. -
Inappropriate?Hi there ;) Sorry to digg up this months old topic, but I'm not sure to understand why some of you guys think the native app is necessary the way to go... AIR is a great platform when well executed. It has its limits for sure, but I don't see exactly what it is that you'd like to build and which couldn't be done with AIR.
FYI, I've created a Flex/AIR library precisely for this. More info on the topic I've created for it.
Or maybe I missed something, which is perfectly possible since I'm a noob to GetSatisfaction. ;)
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Hm... Why you need it?
-
Inappropriate?Hey!
I was fishing around for a new mac app project and this idea caught my eye.
Has anyone been working on this yet?
If not, I wouldn't be against some features wish list to get going...
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? This could be a great Mac app, and I know I speak for a lot of Get Sat/Mac users. Just having a localized instance of all the topics and conversations around my company and products would be great, as the speed and elegance of the experience would be killer. You could also provide more advanced navigation, leveraging the fact that a desktop app can be more easily stateful. Other features that would sell themselves:
- Growl notifications for new topics and responses
- Saving drafts
- Batch tagging, status updating
On a different note, some mac app developers have said they wished they could easily pull Get Sat help topics into their apps' Help menu for easy access and searching. You could build out a framework for adding Get Satisfaction community help content into mac apps.
Anyway, good luck and let us know if you need any help!
I’m super happy excited joy

Starting with Fluid would probably make sense (http://fluidapp.com) -- if only because it comes with things like Growl for free.
Then again, going for a full client-side app would probably be better to just start from scratch.
+1 for getting Satisfaction integration into the Help menu. I think that would be totally tight! -
Inappropriate?Well, I'm pretty excited about it!
I will start from scratch using the pretty straight-forward API.
Growl notification are obviously a feature I will include.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Just having a localized instance of all the topics and conversations around my company and products would be great", Thor. Localized as in translated?
As far as the Get Sat Help Menu framework, I will include it in my app and release it to the community when it's bug free.
What do you think of the obvious "iGetSat" name for it ?

that name is awesome. :) -
Inappropriate?By "localized" (confusing term!) I just meant the content was on the local machine. I wouldn't expect any localization of the UI.
Cute name! -
Thanks for clearing that out. -

Just wanted to chime in and say this is fantastic, Erwan. We're super excited. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi all!
A quick note to let you know that the "iGetSat" project is officially launched.
It is being built with two targets in mind : the Mac and the iPhone.
I'm starting a website with a blog and forum to come.
There's pretty much nothing in it yet (lol) but it will help me in the days to come to keep everyone posted on the development process and get feedback and feature requests.

I’m very excited

Very cool. Thanks for keeping us posted. We look forward to seeing what you come up with. -
Inappropriate?Hi all!
Who should I talk to for questions regarding the API?
I have started developping iGetSat and am running into what seems to be a... hole?
Please direct me to the right person. Many thanx
I’m confused
-
You can contact me, thor at getsatisfaction dot com. It may be a hole, or it may be one of several undocumented features :) -
Hey Thor! I sent you an email on Feb 1st with a question regarding my problem. I thought that maybe I wasn't asking the right person, which is why I posted this question here. Did you not get it? -
Missed it before but just responded. -
This reply was removed on 02/04/09.

Inappropriate?Hey again! I've started a new topic regarding feature request for iGetSat:

cool, thanks, Erwan. We'll get the word out. -
Hey Erwan. In case you didn't notice, we've blogged it [http://blog.getsatisfaction.com/2009/...] and Tweeted it [http://twitter.com/tempo/status/11807..., http://twitter.com/satisfaction/statu... & http://twitter.com/satisfaction/statu...] -
Hey Amy! Thanks for spreading the word around like that! I appreciate you guys' enthusiasm over this project! -

We know and we love it! Super excited about this. Thanks much, David. -
Glad you like it! I just sent over some free coupon codes via Eric's email so the GSFN team can check it out. -
Hey David! That looks great! I'm gonna check it out right away. I guess that means I won't have to worry about an iPhone version of my upcoming mac app! -
Thanks, Erwan, I'm looking forward to your desktop app, though I'd the friendly competition in the App Store, if you decide to make one! -
Well... Let's see if I can survive the desktop app first... lol Best of luck for your app! -
Inappropriate?First off, David, this app is beautiful. Really nice work. And to the larger conversation: One thing to consider, there's still room for an app (or to extend this app) that's more about company management of their Get Satisfaction area. We might need to open up more stuff via the API to make that work seamlessly, but I bet we could be convinced. :)
I’m appy
-
Thanks! Yea, I'd definitely consider making a "pro" version... I'm just now getting familiar with how the company management tools work. Let me know if you hear any interest from your customers. -
I think there would be even more interest from the Pro version and I think you could justify a MUCH higher price (29.95?) -
Yea, it looks like your management tools are very useful. I can see how they'd help in quickly processing many topics. I'm going to look into what could be done with the existing API and maybe put in a request for anything essential that isn't available.
I agree that a higher price is definitely possible, given the targeted market and extra usefulness. -
Inappropriate?Hi all, I just released an open source feedback widget for iPhone developers:
Satisfaction Remote Component
I’m happy
-
Can you say "rad?" I know a lot ofiPhone developers who are going to be thrilled about this -
Thanks! Now all we have to do is get the word out! -
Will do my best, David, to help get the word out!
