Tag Typo

I think company reps/admins should be given more control over editing of tags, titles, etc.

For example, somehow this post got a really long gibberish tag (a URL!?) that's causing the whole page to render very wide: http://getsatisfaction.com/280north/t...

When a user submits titles, tags, content with typos, incorrect capitalization, etc, it reflects poorly on the company itself.

I understand the desire for uncensored discussion and don't wish to censor my users, but maybe there's some compromise?

Here's the thing: if you want to make a usable meta-data system you need clearly defined terms and in order to get clearly defined terms you need (in this case) company representatives that are well versed in their product to populate the system. This is a mantra Librarians and Information Professionals have been enveloped in for ages.

The current the tagging system is actually LESS transparent because it doesn't distinguish between user generated and company representative tags. So why not add an option to search between the two?

This seems like a solution that would address all of the issues discussed in this thread and the added flexibility would yield better results overall.

Thanks Cameron, but asking for help on each occurrence is neither efficient nor scalable.

Why not trust admins with tag correction?

While I'd love to just say "Sure! Of course, we'll get right on it!" the reality of the situation is that this specific request will likely be solved within the next few months, rather than the next few weeks.

I'm beginning some major work on the structure of how people relate to the companies and products in Get Satisfaction. Part of that work will be defining the roles, and therefore permissions that each person has in a particular context. Those roles and permissions will affect who can edit tags, as well as a host of other things. I have a feeling that we'll address your concerns about tag editing within the scope of that work.

Cameron, we can't turn admin on instead of off before the tech re-arch?
