What happens when companies die?
So now that Washington Mutual is dead and soon to be gone, what happens to the company's page on Get Satisfaction?
Do defunct companies get removed from the site completely (since the company is no longer around, would any of the discussion even be relevant anymore? I'm not sure archives of praise/anger with a non-existent company are going to benefit anyone) or are they kept around and set as read-only or what?

Great question. It's not something that happens very often. What we usually do is keep the company section around.
If the company is purchased or subsumed by another company, we'll sometimes move the topics over to the new company, since those products still exist, but are now controlled by a new company. For example, Seesmic bought twhirl, and we moved twhirl topics to the Seesmic area.
If the company stops making products, we'll create a company announcement topic that lets everyone know what happened to the company and where they should go to get help. That might be the new Get Satisfaction section, or it might be an outside Web site.
Most important: If the company has employees participating on Get Satisfaction, we'll ask them how they want to approach changes like this, and we'll try to do what makes the most sense for them. If there aren't any employees participating, we'll make the decision ourselves.
Hope this helps!

Inappropriate? It would be nice to introduce a flag to indicate that a company is closed or has moved. This would prevent any further postings by users.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?CoPe: Yeah, I think that would help. If we introduce the ability to "flag" companies, which we've talked about amongst ourselves, this would fit in perfectly as one of the reasons for flagging. Good idea.

Inappropriate?Yup. I just renamed my service from Preff.net to Prefko and I would like to mark/flag Preff.net as either "closed" or better yet "moved to" with a link to the Prefko support page.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Being able to flag companies sounds great. WaMu is as dead as ever; a redirect flag of some sort to Chase would be appropriate. Like on individual topics and posts, users would be able to click "Flag this company?" to notify Get Satisfaction administrators of these types of problems.
