Let people preview their user URL before locking it in
If you set your personal URL to "first.last" for example, without offering a warning or confirmation, the system locks in "firstlast" instead.

Inappropriate? When using Get Satisfaction? I don't believe we ask users to set personal URLs.
-
Inappropriate? It's optional, and can only be done once, but you definitely ask users to do it.
-
Inappropriate?Ah, I see. Yes, we give folks the option of changing that detail once. Our URLs can't include "." which seems to be the problem here. I'll turn this topic into an idea about possibly changing that detail, if it is possible.
-
Inappropriate?Right. The main issue is that the "." was stripped out without warning, and because it can't be changed, you're stuck with it. Imagine if you were attempting to set your URL to the unambiguous "experts.exchange" and got stuck with the dangerously ambiguous "expertsexchange" instead.
It would be sufficient to warn people that "." can't be in the URL and give them an opportunity to set it to something else.
