Alright, so I've done the deploy, and can no longer reproduce the bug on the pbwiki page linked earlier in this topic.
Could others who were having the problem please confirm it as working or not?

Thanks aj. This was a bug I introduced last week. The layout should be back to normal for all those laggers :)

Inappropriate?damn you, IE6!
ted will be looking into this shortly.
I’m disenchanted with the level of quality from microsoft products, as a rule
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for pointing this out. I'm going to do my best to fix it (I'm no CSS expert) because Ted's away for a bit.
Being in on a beta is fun, isn't it?
I’m gonna figure this out
-
Inappropriate? As usual with such things, the bug is instantly resolved by closing IE and opening Firefox (or Safari). Meanwhile, we're hot on the trail of this IE bug...
I’m looking forward to a day when all browsers can live as one

Inappropriate?Yup that solves the problem permanently for us. :)
(not for other laggers though)...
I’m happy to help

Inappropriate? We've put up the admin widgets on our customer help pages (if you have a PBwiki open, just click the help button to the right) and it appears the widgets are broken in IE6.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Uh oh. We're looking into this right now. Stay tuned.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Paul,
I just loaded up that page using IE6 and it worked just fine for me.
What problems were you encountering?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Hi Ted,
This is Chris, Paul's colleague who experienced the problem.
I clicked over to http://yummy.pbwiki.com/help.php.
The Satisfaction widget says it's "Loading..." but never actually loads. So all I see is the line: "Active customer service discussions in PBwiki," but I never see any of the actual discussions.
If I type a question into the "Ask a question" box and click "Continue", the behavior is inconsistent. When I ask "Why do I get three emails for every notification?", I get "Searching Satisfaction..." and no info ever comes up, at least not after 15 minutes of waiting.
When I typed "Help!" instead, I did get some suggested topics after about 15 seconds.
If I click on the "Active customer service discussions in PBwiki" link, I do come to http://getsatisfaction.com/pbwiki and everything seems to work just fine.
I am running IE6 (6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 to be precise) on Windows XP (Version 5.1, Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254).
If you need screenshots, I can send them.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Interesting. It seems to be working now.
These don't really seem IE6 related. It's quite possible that it was a server issue on our end.
I'm sorry you're running into these problems. IE is a strange beast. I'll keep poking around to see if I can reproduce what your describing.
Thanks for the details!
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Alas, it still seems to be an issue for me. Would sending a screenshot help? I'd post to Flickr but the damned changes to their login system have screwed me up.
-
Inappropriate? That would be great. Can you sent it to my first name at getsatisfaction.com?
Thanks Chris! -
Inappropriate?Hey Chris,
How is your morning going?
Here are a few things that Cameron noticed that might be screwing with IE6
1. Duplicate reference to the widget.js script

2. The style tags are inside the body ( these should be in the head)
If you could remove the extra reference to the js and move the style tags to the head it might help.
Thanks!
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate? Also take a look at the validation of the page.
IE6 is notorious for misbehaving with invalid markup
I’m still hopeful
-
Inappropriate?Hi there. I can reproduce the problem on a Clean, perfectly validating HTML page:
http://klug.pbwiki.biz/s.html
I'm using IE6 and it simply doesn't load.
All I did was copy the widget code directly from Satisfaction into a HTML page and it doesn't load
-
Inappropriate? That is so strange. I followed this link you provided using IE6 and it worked just fine. I wonder if it has to do with your security setitngs? We'll keep digging.
-
Inappropriate?SUCCESS!
Well at least I successfully reproduced it. And now to fix it.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Hi Ted,
Any progress on the fix? We've had a handful of IE6 and Avant users (from the UK) report this problem - any ETA's I can pass along?
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hello Paul,
I'm still working this out. You can expect a fix later this morning.
I really appreciate your *patience* :-p
I’m on it
-
Inappropriate?Update: This is becoming more and more difficult to debug.
Basically I can't reproduce it locally and our staging server is down.
As soon as it's back up I'll let you know.
I’m sorry
-
Inappropriate? We're getting really close here. We've narrowed it down to a problem with gzip. We should have a fix out very soon.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Hi All,
I got pulled onto this bug today, and I've tracked down the cause to be the gzip compression we are performing on the response. I can reliably reproduce the bug, and have confirmed that IE6 works fine if the response is not gzipped. Since we don't have the ability (yet) to conditionally turn off or on gzip compression based on content type/browser, I have to develop that code.
The code to make sure that IE doesn't get gzipped javascript responses is about half done, and I expect to deploy the solution tonight, So expect things to start working then.
Thanks all for your patience, I know it has been frustrating for you.

Inappropriate? Thanks, Scott - I'll contact our customers now and see if they can reproduce this. Once Chris gets into the office in the morning, we'll have him test as well.
