Inappropriate?It's not compulsory - you can always pay for an advert instead.
The fact is that if someone finds your site and they like the quality of your work and your prices then they probably won't look at your links page anyway.
If they don't like your work and they don't like your prices then they still won't look at your links page. So it's not really that big a deal. It's just for the search engines.
The internet is kind of made up of sites linking to each other -it doesn't really work otherwise.
No one is making you add the link - just don't submit your details.
