Why is the Gmail upload not working? IMAP is enabled.
Gmail upload not working. It says I've got to enable IMAP but IMAP is already enabled (and yes I double-checked).

Aha! I believe that this is related to a special Gmail security feature that sometimes decides a given account must be unlocked via a special web page. Gmail was rejecting some IMAP logins with a cryptic message like 'Web login required' but logging in via the web (even via https, as was suggested by one person) didn't fix the issue. However, I eventually found the following web page within Gmail's Help, and using the DisplayUnlockCaptcha URL there helped:

If you've got IMAP access enabled, but Gist doesn't agree, try following the link in that article and giving Gist another shot.

Inappropriate? After trawling through my Twitter account I discovered that TAMcCann is on it.

Inappropriate?Hi Lincolnr, I'll research asap and respond to this issue. We have a new release out very soon to our Beta site, but we have not had this current issue reported on the current version. We are on it.

Sounds good but doesn't seem to sort it either. -
Inappropriate?Thanks Ben!
That looked like a great solution until it didn't work.
IMAP is enabled, used Captcha to unlock, then still get same response...
I made sure no other app was trying to access my mail at the same time as well.
I’m frustrated.

Inappropriate?Hmm, back to the drawing board on your problem. I'll try to take a closer look at your issue in the next day, if I can.

Thanks!
I tried re-starting my browser (Safari), suing a different browser (Firefox), using a different Gmail account, clearing my cache... -
Inappropriate?Hi Lincoln, it looks like your account is at googlemail.com rather than gmail.com -- for legal reasons, Google Mail users in the UK use a different domain and even a slightly different folder structure, which our software doesn't currently support (we need to have the right domain so we can log into your IMAP account, and we need to know the folder names so that we can find the right folders to process). Unfortunately, at this time, your account can't be used with Gist. We are currently working on the backend pieces to support UK Google Mail accounts, but I'm not quite sure when we'll be able to provide the user controls to enable this.

Inappropriate? That's gutting! I look forward to you adding the UK market to your plans.
Of course I'll be happy to help in any way I can by testing....
As far a folders names, do you mean these:
Thanks to Ben & all the Gist people for looking into this! Best of luck! (Get back to work!)
Regards
I’m confident & hopeful.

Inappropriate?Actually, I'm referring to IMAP folders, which show up in Google Mail as Labels -- but Google Mail's web interface doesn't show the built-in ones that we use, such as "[Gmail]/All Mail" and "[Gmail]/Sent Mail". For UK users, these are called "[Google Mail]/All Mail" and "[Google Mail]/Sent Mail". Other folders created by an IMAP client do show up in the web interface with "[Gmail]" or "[Google Mail]" in front of the folder names, but the built-in ones don't appear on the web.

Inappropriate?Still hoping for the addition of Googlemail accounts to this (potentially) excellent service...
I’m confident, impatient

Still waiting. Is there a time scale on letting people from the UK (those with googlemail addresses) use the service? -
Inappropriate?Hi I have this problem too - haven't tried the thingy above cos I'm on a UK version of Gmail too - is Gist compatible with UK Gmail yet?
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?GIST is not compatible with UK Gmail yet.
So to use it you need a major hack-a-round.
Here's what I did:
1. Skype a relative in the US.
2. Get them to open a US Gmail account for you.
3. Set up your UK gmail accounts to enable POP and IMAP.
4. Login to you new US Gmail account.
5. Set it up to check your UK accounts via POP.
6. Add the US Gmail account to GIST.
7. Presto!
Sadly you can't open a US Gmail account from the UK... some legal/internet/ICANN reason.
Best of luck.
One day the GIST guys will take pity and allow us UK users to feel the love too.
I can't code for toffee but with all the hassle I'm going through to use GIST they should pay me or something!
I’m excited

Inappropriate? As of this week, Gist should work seamlessly with Google Mail UK. Just enter your account information in the Gmail pane of the My Account page and Gist should automatically detect you have a Google Mail UK account and process it accordingly.
