Local window issues
When clicking the Hotmail icon you provide [and I'm not currently logged onto Hotmail] a new tabbed Window is started in Firefox - not what I expected from the video demo. Also doing the same for my Gmail account opens a window [as expected] inviting me to sign in, but on entering credentials the 'goeverywhere' page is completely taken over by Gmail as it opens.

Inappropriate? There is a generic problem when windows are used to host some web sites.
Mail tools are especially bad in this regard.
More expanation on this problem is available on the blog by selecting the "Webtop Highjack" category or go directly to:
http://www.goeverywhere.com/category/...
We are working on finding ways around it.
In the meantime to keep from completely exiting the webtop we force some known problem sites into a tab so that the webtop is preserved
I use gmail and hotmail and in the meantime I would suggest that you set up an icon on the desktop for gmail and set it to exit the desktop purpose. I set up my cookies to fill in those passwords so that it is more convenient.
I will do more investigation on the gmail highjack because mine does not hijack after credentials?
What browser?
We will keep everyone up to speed as we make progress on this important capability.

Inappropriate?I see the problem you are having with GMAIL in IE. It doesn't happen in FF.
As a work around after entering credentials for GMAIL click "cancel" and that will keep the webtop from being highjacked. Then GMAIL will try and load even though the dialog said it won't. At the lower left click on HTML version (which is what our link is to anyway). Gmail should load and work from then on.
If you are saving credentials in your browser the next time you do this it should not try and highjack (at least mine didn't).
I still think you would be more please to just create an icon and have it purposely exit into a tab using the newer non-html version, until we find a better solution.
