IE6: quick launch added but not showing in launch area

I added a quick launch application but it isn't showing up in the quick launch area. It is actually there, but you can't see it until you mouse over it and the tooltip pops up for it, but the icon doesn't show up and there is nothing else indicating that there is anything clickable there.
