Opera browser support in Docs, Wiki, Gmail and others Last reply on July 05, 2008 14:52.
From time to time I'm forced into switching for different browser instead of my favorite – Opera. Frequent message saying “You browser is currently not supported” is very annoying. This are most common on Wiki and Docs, but Gmail is Opera crippled as well.
And each time I see it, I, myself as a developer, understand reasons behind it. Yes it is FF that has all set of plug-ins and in fact became a developer tool rather than a browser. But this is still not a reason to provide less support to the best browser available. I'm not here to argue why I've stated Opera the best, yes I know that it has a lot of problems (I've mentioned that I'm a developer :)). But the painful aspect is that I can't notice the movement.
Guys, I really like products of your company, but it is so disappointing when you can't get all from products you like on the browser that you favor so much!
Thanks, for you attention.

Password recovery!
I lost the password to an old gmail account. The password recovery site is no help to me. Is there a number to call for gmail password recovery or a more effective process I can go through? -

Data loss through accidentally removed labels
Problem: If you mess up while removing labels, there is no way to find these mails again if you don't know their content.
What if you have a label full of important todos and mark them all and remove the wrong label by accident? It will be hard or impossible to find these again in "All mail" if they are from a wide date range, which can happen in the label "Priority 5". OK, if you notice the mistake at once you can still revert it... but that is pretty weak compared to the possible data loss.
My proposed solution: Google should have a "recently relabeled"-view: It should be like "All mail" but sorted by the date when the mails had their labels changed. -

Why does Gmail put so much legit email into "spam"? Last reply on July 01, 2008 06:54.
Has anyone else noticed that Gmail is dumping a disturbingly high percentage of legitimate email messages into the "spam" folder? I have found that even after I mark a sender/message as not spam (like a newsletter), after a while Gmail declares it "spam" again. It's like a full-time job to keep correcting Gmail's highly paranoid (delusional?) spam-Nazi feature. -

Why I don't receive the verification email?
I'm trying to add another email address to my Gmail. Of course, they need to verify the new email address. But the problem is: I have never received the verification email. I checked spam folder. Not there, either. -

GMail's filters are brilliant, but why can't they apply more than one label or forward to multiple email addresses? Last reply on June 26, 2008 12:39.
Using filters and labels has made GMail my tool of choice for productivity, but I'm finding it a pain to have to create multiple filters to add multiple labels or to forward emails to multiple recipients.
While I can set up a mailing list in my Google Apps management console that lets me get around the multiple email address limitation, I don't have any other workaround for assigning multiple labels.
[ + Add another Label ] would be a great button to see!

GrandCentral: unified messaging w/ Gmail? & contacts API sharing?
#1 When and how will GC integrate into Gmail? Today there is Gmail/Google Talk integration there is still no Gmail/GC integration (even though it supports "real" voicemail).
#2.) Does GrandCentral support contacts sync w/ Google/Gmail yet? I'm not finding any way to get that done, even though Google owns both products. Yet there are a zillion ways to sync Gmail contacts with *non* Google products (and Google even is behind some of those 3rd party syncs).
What is the Grandcentral plan? It seems like since Google bought it that there has been no new development and the support channels have been severly narrowed. I'm getting the feeling like it is being abandoned.

Gmail Labs add regroup conversations function?
Can I break apart or regroup conversations now in Gmail Labs Beta? I didn't see that broken out in the list of new functionality per se. What I'm trying to accomplish is, say for example, I have 15 messages about a specific Ebay transaction (hypothetically call it "Elvis's laptop").
Since at the end I'll have 10-15 emails (at least) from Ebay, Paypal, buyer questions, shipping confirmations, etc, I'd like a way to bundle these to make the chronology easy to read. Tagging does not seem to work for this situation unless I'm overlooking something obvious.
Thanks! -

Six ideas that would make Gmail better
I know that there are hundreds of thousands of people who want to have this and this and this but maybe there's a chance you read this and discuss one or more of my suggestions one day.
Number One
Account Merge: I've been one of the first Gmail customers and have been - most of the time - happy with Gmail. After finding out that (probably not that many) people's accounts have been hacked and Google didn't feel responsible, I thought about the identity problem. As I signed up there was no real obligation to fill out my profile. For the Google support it would be probably impossible to find out that I am the "owner" of the account, let's say demo@gmail.com, when someone hacked my account. I think that is the bad side of being just an "anonymous" user id.
As you opened Google Apps to the audience I immediately switched to Google Apps with my own domain. I have several domain names, by the way. I felt more secure - if someone hacks my account, I could switch MX records and could still use my mail address. That is the good thing, the bad thing is that I would want to merge my Gmail account demo@gmail.com with my demo@domain.com account. I know there is a possibility to set up aliases or even forward / fetch mails from one account to another.
Nice solution, but it's not a smart solution for me. I would prefer to have ONE account, let's say demo@gmail.com and then a SUB account demo@domain.com. When I write mails from demo@domain.com I don't want anyone to see my @gmail.com address. Also, when I chat with someone I want to choose which ID I will use. I don't want to use demo@domain.com everytime. A merge would also be great because of calendar integration, Docs intregation, etc. Too difficult with two accounts. And then I have a different Google Adsense account (demo@yahoo.com). Google customer support told me merge with another Google account. Because I have several domains and didn't want to use aliases (which are just mail aliases) I had to create more and more Google Apps accounts. All together I maybe have ten accounts. No, really, it's too much. You just HAVE to provide a possibility to merge accounts.
Number Two
Colors: As I said, I like Gmail, but it's a pain in the a... to look at the colors. Please, please, provide a simple possibility to change the colors. No themes. I don't need more graphics. I switched from Yahoo and HoTMaiL to Gmail because Gmail was plain simple, but please provide a possibility to change the color from a (in my opinion) terrible looking green/blue to other colors. By the way, I prefer simple grey! Bright and darker grey.
Number Three
Chat intregation: AIM support is already great, but not that many people use AIM anymore (unfortunately!), MSN and Yahoo are more interesting.
Number Four
Provide an address book: I know you have a contact manager, but it's not an address book. I know it's so much IN to have social networking integration everywhere, in a year or two probably people even share their mailboxes on the internet lol, but there some users who don't need all that. It should be optional. An address book should be an address book. I want to put MY contacts in the address book, not the ones that Google thinks are important for me. An address book for ME is Yahoo's address book. That is a real address book. I can store all my informations about someone and another important thing: I can access the address book very easy without opening my mails. http://addressbook.xxxxx.com that's it.
Number Six
Provide better Opera support: I cannot understand why you two companies can't work together to develop an Opera compatible version that looks like the one when you open Internet Explorer or Firefox. I've been a long time Opera user, had to switch to Firefox (which I just hate because it's even in the RC3 slower as Opera 5 years ago) just to be able to use Gmail. There are not hundreds of millions of Opera users, I understand that well, but even for the hundreds of thousands of people there should be a solution. Right now you force them to switch to IE or FF or to use different mail services.
Thanks for your time. -

New Gmail preload is stalling at 98%
My connection is not slow btw
NOTE: this is only happening in FF 2.0.0.14
This seems to be taking longer than usual.
If you are using a slow Internet connection, you can wait a bit longer for this page to finish loading, or just use basic HTML view for now.
If you are using your normal Internet connection and you usually get past this loading step without any problems, please refresh this page in your browser. You can also try signing into Gmail via https, which can help if the problem is caused by a bad proxy server or some types of third-party software. If you continue to have trouble loading your account, please visit the help center for troubleshooting information.

Why do responses to Google Groups emails create new conversations?
I use Google Groups and Gmail. Responses to messages sent to Google Groups appear as brand new conversations in Gmail when the group is set up to use a tag in the subject.
For example:
[mailList] conversationTitle
[mailList] re: conversationTitle
get counted as seperate conversations... because the ‘re:’ is after the [mailList] instead of in front of it.
Is there a way to get the responses to be under the original conversation thread? -

Partial Word search problem on Gmail Last reply on June 08, 2008 15:48.
GMail search cannot locate partial-word searches. For instance if I want to find e-mails from angelag@gmail.com, and I type "angela" - her e-mails will not appear as results. When is it going to be fixed? -

SPF hard fail not working in Google Apps?
My spf record has been set for the last 24 hours as follows
v=spf1 mx a:mailhost.zen.co.uk -all
I'm using google apps so my MX records all point to Google and I occasionally have to send via my ISP Zen. Sending and receiving works but when I test sending a spoof email (pretending to be from my domain) from a non authorised IP address Gmail just flags the message as follows.
Received-SPF: softfail (google.com: domain of transitioning testmessage@mydomain.co.uk does not designate xxx.xxx.142.162 as permitted sender) client-ip=xxx.xxx.142.162;
Why is Gmail only treating this as a soft fail and not a hard as -all indicates?
Hah it gets worse!
Now gmail sees my spoof test from an unauthorised ip address as a hard fail but still delivers the message to me. Surely hard fail means reject or at least put in spam bin.
Received-SPF: fail (google.com: domain of test@mydomain.co.uk does not designate xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx as permitted sender) -
