"Google.com" unable to connect
I cannot connect to google.com or any other pages starting with google.com/ ıncludıng gmail.com (mail.google.com). (simple Internet Explorer cannot display this page error)However I can access to google.co.uk, google.be etc country sites, can perform search etc.I can also connect to maps.google.com, news.google.com, groups.google.com finance.google.com but nothing like google.com/support or google.com/options or /sites, /reader /calender. (I am being transferred to http://www.google.com/calendar/render... or http://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=en&ta... which does not work.)
I encountered this problem from time to time for the last 2 months but today I tried everything, deleted all content in temp folder, uninstalled google toolbar, reset the settings of internet explorer, reset my modem, reboot my computer, nothing is working. I am connected from home so I did not change any setting I am not using an additional firewall or proxy. I downloaded firefox to try but it didn't work either. Since yesterday my company laptop also stopped connecting gmail from home. I am in Belgium, using XP and IE7 and I can connect to every other site except for google.com, also to skype and live messenger. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Inappropriate?Open a DOS prompt (Start, Run..., "CMD", Ok) and type:
ping google.com
After pressing enter this will attempt a series of four low-level connection to Google. Copy and paste the result back here so we can see what's happening. This may take a bit of back and forth, but we should be able to figure it out. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. Tried switching router, using a proxy, turning off firewall, but nothing seems to work. I pinged google.com and got:

Inappropriate?very strange... i tried opening 209.85.171.100 in firefox, and it worked! It opened up the google page! When i type in www.google.com however, it wont work. I still cant use the search engine though, when i try to search it can not connect again.
-
Inappropriate?Thank you for the ping results, tapeworm. The good news is that 209.85.171.100 actually is Google, not an imposter site (we have a lot of IP addresses, so if you see something different that's not necessarily a bad thing). I'll try to get some answers about why ping could give a valid DNS lookup, but HTTP does not...
-
Inappropriate?update: I discovered i can access search results with:
http://209.85.171.100/search?hl=en&q=...
(%s being the search string)
It does not work however if I put in "www.google.com" instead of the ip. -
Inappropriate? Can you tell me what error Firefox eventually reports: Can't find host, connection timeout, reset by peer...
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?"Failed to Connect, Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection."

Inappropriate?Same problem here. Can connect by IP not by www address. Cannot search unless use teh %s string. Can connect to lycos and search there no problem. same error messages as above. No proxy here, straight t1 connection...so timeout should not be a problem.
Any ideas yet? -
Inappropriate?Just try to flush your DNS cache. It did the trick for me :)
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, did not work for me. Still having same problem. Installed Firefox, same errors. Flush DNS, cleared history, etc. has to be local to machine, others in office can connect no problem.

Inappropriate?I have the exact same problem with Firefox, IE and Chrome. It's cause by malwares and the only program I have success with is Spybot. Reboot after the disinfection and everything is ok. Also try Malwarebyte and Avast.

I have to the same problem when I try and access my gmail account. Its intermittent and I get the following error message:
Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at mail.google.com.
I just tried sleeping my laptop and waking it again, and that fixed it. But im sure its only a very temporary fix.
Any ideas or advice would be appreciated :)

Any help to resolve this type of issue? -
Inappropriate?OK. I spent all day (literally) scouring the web for answers to this. Seems like loads of people have the same problem. I have solved mine but please read what my issue was before you decide if it might work for you because I am no computer expert!
I think my problems began when I got a message that appeared to be from Flash saying I needed to upgrade.
I downloaded a file and clicked it but instead of getting the usual message about accepting terms and installing it, nothing happened. So I clicked it again... Anyway nothing happened again and that made me think it might not be quite right.
I don't know if this caused it or not but at the exact same time I noticed that my search results were being redirected to the wrong pages (Like Incredifind or similar malware might do).
I found the file that I had downloaded and deleted it and as soon as I did this I could not access any Google pages or any Yahoo search pages.
I ran a full scan with Norton 360 and found a few issues that were resolved.
I ran a quick scan with MWAB (Malwarebyte's excellent FREE program) and found a few more that were also resolved. You can find it here:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
I STILL had no luck connecting to Google or Yahoo with either IE8 or FF3.5.
Thankfully the laptop was unaffected by this so could continue trawling for answers which seem very few and far between.
Eventually someone suggested WinSockFix.exe might do the trick. You can get it here:
http://www.brothersoft.com/winsockfix....
THIS HAS WORKED 100% FOR ME. YIPPEEE!
Another answer which might prove useful (especially about guarding against future problems) to you can be found here:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Firefo...
And don't forget it could just be that the site you are having problems with could actually be "down" . You can check that here:
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.co...
Good luck all!
And if this works for you then go and copy the whole thing onto at least one other site you asked the question at. It might help someone else. -
Inappropriate?Btw my problem was solved with a DNS adress, however whenever I connect somewhere else and then try back at home, I can't access to google again until I change the DNS from automatic to manual. It may have something to do with Belgacom though.
-
Inappropriate?I also have problem with this problem.
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com.sg.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I have run the ipconfig.
