Gmail has revolutionised my life, but I'm currently experiencing some real problems with it. Randomly, when replying to an email t-h-e s-p-e-e-d a-t w-h-i-c-h t-h-e l-e-t-t-e-r-s a-p-p-e-a-r goes REALLY slowly. Also, after downloading an attachment, I have to refresh the page and wait for the whole thing to refresh before I can carry on. I've disabled all Greasemonkey scripts and even deleted Greasemonkey, but it's still the same. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Inappropriate?I experience the same problem with the delay when typing but can't comment on your other problem. I just found this link which suggest you try the "old version" link at the top of the page.

Inappropriate?hi... I've been hearing a lot of complaints lately about Gmail being slow. Some people are attributing it to the new version.
I have that same problem sometimes, though, where it's only typing a letter at a time with a big delay. I've found that it's usually because I either have too many tabs open in Firefox, just need to restart Firefox because it's been a few days since I've done so or need to actually reboot my laptop for the same reason. And I have not installed the newest Gmail app yet.

Inappropriate? Thanks Amy - I also think its the newest Gmail. I'm going to try switching back.
I’m Hopeful

Inappropriate? If you have firebug added on your firefox, it is known for slowing down gmail considerably. Test with and without firebug and see whether it solves your problem. Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time... I don't have Firebug and I believe I have solved the problem by reverting to the old version (so thanks again alumley) which is a pity, because I like to keep my systems up-to-the-minute.
I’m Happy

Inappropriate?I don't have the problem with applications, but I do sometimes have the problem with the slow typing. It seems a lot of times it is actually my wireless keyboard -- if I change channels on the keyboard everything speeds back up.
But overall, I have had some problems lately with google being slow, reverting back to composing a new letter (to whomever my last email was written), notebook not opening up when I highlight something. I have been wondering if this is google or firefox, or something wrong on my computer.

Inappropriate?slow text input happens to me intermittently, but it's not a predictable bug. i wonder if it has something to do with a process that gmail has going on in the background. like some kind of precaching that keeps failing.
anyone from google able to shed some light on this?
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate? There are posts on (I think it was) the google blog so they are aware of it.
I just tested mine and seems to be fine and I don't recall this slow down for awhile now. -
Inappropriate?I've been using the prior version now for months. I wish Google would acknowledge this problem and fix it.
I’m hoping Google fixes this

Inappropriate?Disabling the Chat feature in gmail makes it run a LOT faster for me. Maybe that's why I haven't noticed that slowness is an issue?
I’m happy with GMail
-
Inappropriate? Not that I am aware of. However, I have hit on a workaround: I am a dedicated Firefox user, but I have found that the Gmail problem does not occur in Opera. So ... I have both browsers loaded and do all my emailing in Opera.
Interestingly, the problem does not occur on my new laptop, so clearly there is some conflict with my PC setup. I just don't know what, specially when switching to the old version solves it.
I’m Still dismayed.

Inappropriate?I was hoping the problem was maybe some extension like Better Gmail. I have a brand new Lenovo R61 - but on my work Thinkpad T42 it also does not occur. Its the impossibly SLOW typing that is so frustrating - and if i switch to the old version some extensions like Remember The Milk aren't supported so it's a catch 22. Seems absurd to have to resort to another browser ...

Inappropriate?Hi nat. Probably an obvious / dumb question, but you've tried quitting and restarting your browser and even restarting your computer?
Also, to ask a new question / start a new topic about Google go to this page and start typing in the big text box then click the green "Continue and add details" button:

Inappropriate?I have just had to buy a new laptop and I am experiencing the horrnedously slow typing and sadly after reverting back to the old style gmail my problem is now solved. I was worried initially it was because my new system works with Vista, so I am glad that this isn't the case. I hope Gmail sort this problem out, cos I love the graffiti layout

Inappropriate?I have been using the following link https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1 to go to the gmail version 1.0 to alleviate the slow and frustrating typing on version 2.0. Up until a few days ago it worked great, however now when I use this link it automatically forwards me to version 2.0 and I am back to the rediculously slow typing. Is there another link for version 1? With the amount of e-mail I do I am going to have to switch back to hotmail if Google can't find a solution in the near future.
I’m frustrated!

Inappropriate? If you turn off hotkeys in your account settings it greatly improves typing speed. Thank god.
I’m thankful
