gmail not accessible (404) on specific xp machine
I have a computer from which I can not access gmail or gmail based email systems (gmail for domains).
my system is a windows xp.
1) This is on both FF and IE
2) another machine on the same network can access gmail without any problem
3) I can accees other google services such as calendar or google search
4) when accessing gmail.com from FF I get a 404 message.
5) when accessing gmail.com from IE I get a widnows login dialog for mail.l.google.com
More info:
It would seem as if the call is redirected somehow to my local IIS (or maybe some other IIS).
any ideas ?

Inappropriate?problem resolved by executing
ipconfig /flushdns
from a cmd prompt
origin of problem remains unknown.
I’m curious what caused it in the first place.

this solves the problem

404 means "Site not found". Little hiccup somewhere along the wire perhaps?
You can mark this as solved now, right? -
Inappropriate?well, The 404 is not the issue. the real Q is how my DNS cache got contaminated to begin with a record pointing to localhost for mail.google.com.
as for marking it as solved - I realy wanted to but could not find how.
only now that I can see above your comment a link saying "This solves the problem" but actually it was my comment that I would like to mark like this.
I would say its a bad design of this system.

Inappropriate?ohh... great, now I don't see any "This solves the problem" link at all.
-
That's because it's your own reply. I poked the link now. :p -
Inappropriate?I have no idea how to mark his Q as solved.
-
Oh well, leave it then. :p
