i seem to be getting email for someone else in my account
it seems some young girl has signed up for my same address without the dot. blahblah@ every so often i get email for her. like when she forgot her password for some social networking site and tried several times to change it, or when her friend want to send her slightly derogatory email, or when her social networking sites want her to update stuff. it's not fun. is there a way to make sure her email goes to her account only?
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Well, I don't know if this can be solved exactly, but consider this:
From Google: "Gmail doesn't recognize dots as characters within usernames, adding or removing dots from a Gmail address won’t change the actual destination address. Messages sent to yourusername@gmail.com, your.username@gmail.com and y.o.u.r.u.s.e.r.n.a.m.e@gmail.com are all delivered to your inbox, and only yours."
Also, if you have a really common word in your e-mail address, you're bound to get e-mail that random people enter when they sign up to use social networking sites -- but don't actually want to be a long-term member. You'll have to e-mail the site and ask them to stop sending you e-mail.
The only other alternative I can think of is to try and contact the person you think this e-mail is directed toward and let her know your situation. But, I suspect these e-mails are not all meant to reach this person.
I’m not sure this helps, but trying

Inappropriate? You can also read more about Gmail as it relates to this here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/an...

Inappropriate?Well, I'm not a Google employee, but from what I know blah.blah@gmail.com and blahblah@gmail com (without the dot) are actually the same email address. It's not possible to have two different logins "blah.blah" and "blahblah" in gmail. You can make a test, if you have a different email address (not gmail) then send an email from that address to blahblah@gmail.com and see if you get it on your gmail account. You can ask a friend to send you a test email like this. If you get it then you are sure that blahblah@gmail.com is actually your email account. Thus, if you are getting strange emails that means that someone is using your email address on all these social networking sites.

Inappropriate?hey eric,
that was exactly what i read, but even though google says it can't happen, it seems to be true.
i thought it was a typo until the day she spent all day trying to retrieve her password from a social networking site. you know the button that says, "forgot password?" that sends an email to the address you used to sign up with?
if she spent the whole day trying to get the password (and i did eventually email the company and tell them to stop sending to me) it seems to indicate that she wasn't just making something up when she created the account.
I’m good effort, but still stumped

Inappropriate?Oops, it looks like someone has answered the question at the same time as me :)
-
Inappropriate? What you said about spending the whole day trying to retrieve a password only shows that she was expecting to receive an email with a reminder of the password and when it didn't arrive she tried again and again. Instead, you were receiving these emails wondering what is goind on. That also shows that when signing up on that social site the other person (girl?) made a mistake when putting an email in her profile. She must have a similar login to yours in gmail and she definitely made a mistake. I can't explain it otherwise.
-
Inappropriate?her not knowing her own email address doesn't explain why i sometimes get automatic emails from these site and sometimes don't, though. if she signed up with the wrong address, i should get all the spam from these sites, not just one ever few months.
-
Inappropriate?just create a filter and forward it to her address and be done with it.

Inappropriate?Same problem and from these replies, it does not look like there is a solution.
Yesterday I received a hotel confirmation for another person. We have the same last name and same first initial. I have a dot between my last name and my first initial. He does not but his e-mail still came to me. It is crazy frustrating not being able to contact a google person directly. Sorry this is not an answer to your problem, but I am hoping that someone from google replies with a solution. -
Inappropriate?Karen, if you know the other person's full first name, you can try forwarding the hotel confirmation email to the address made up of the person's full first name and full last name (firstlast@gmail.com) Maybe the other person forgot that his login consists of full first name and not just the first name's initial letter.

Inappropriate?Hope this reply isn't too late -- but I have the same exact problem.
My email address is "my.name@gmail"
Some woman signed up 2 years after me with "myname@gmail"
I've read through the entire help section on Gmail, and I already know about how they don't recognize periods, dashes, blah blah blah blah blah.
And I've already tried sending an email to the "myname@gmail" address from another account -- from my Yahoo email account -- and I did receive the email at my "my.name@gmail" account.
However, please note that I've also corresponded with the woman who has the other email account. I told her about the similarities with our accounts, and how frustrating it is that her emails are coming to my inbox. And whenever we correspond, she's basically sending an email TO HERSELF... and I'll receive it on my end!!! It's like some weird paradoxical email worm hole. How is it possible that she can send an email TO HERSELF and I can read it on my end??? The details of that email says.... "To: myname@gmail, From: myname@gmail"
From what I've read, it doesn't look like my problem is unique. But I hope something can be done about it soon!
I’m frustrated, pissed off

Inappropriate?thanks christina,
that doesn't solve the problem, but it sure helps me feel less crazy. :-)
