Integration of Google Groups "Files" and Google Docs
In google groups there is a section for files... and it's great, sorta.
A lot of the files are appended with a 2 or a 3 and then they don't open properly... they just open like a text file.
It would be ideal if they just opened in Google Docs (and some people could download them if they prefered). I prefer using google docs for shared .doc files.

Inappropriate?yeah, same here - in the groups in only allows me to download the file.
I have a spreadsheet i'm sharing with a group, and would love the group members to be able to view/edit depending on permissions, but it wont let me open the files in google docs.
Do google themselves moderate this site?
or is it an independent body?

Inappropriate?I'd say that's 85% of the way there. Sharing entire folders in Google Docs and being able to add the entire list from a Google Group to a folder or document is really what we all wanted to be able to do. But one more step remains to make it seamless: allow user to actually embed the shared Google Docs folder *within a page on the Google Group's site.* It would just make it one-step easier than having to jump between sites. (I know, I know, with tabbed browsing this isn't such a big deal, but the visual simplicity of having it all in one place would be significant, I think.)
