is google evil?

Google indexes the internet, give us mapping tools and a better way to view the earth, not to mention tons of interesting widgets. Admittedly they also are in the business of charging credit cards (AdWords and Google Checkout).

I'd say evil wasn't having power, but what you do with it (in a bad way). Nothing evil to me either.

I have to agree. They provide a lot of great services. Sure they make a ton of money, but that's what allows them to keep innovating and helping to drive the internet forward. I think we humans tend to judge as evil too quickly just because someone or something has become exceedingly successful/powerful/wealthy, etc.. As DDavis says above, it's what you do with the power that determines whether or not you're evil.

Powerful and a little scary, but not evil.

I have worked at Google for several years and can assure you that the "don't be evil" is not just a slogan; really!

Google evil? no way. they let the world see that you do not have to pay to get good software and internet services. they help open-source software like the Linux operating system, open office, Firefox ... to get big. and right now they are even getting open source Linux on almost all cellphone brands, what will make cellphones cheaper, and they get rich and pay there employees by giving people free stuff :-)
