Is there a way to share a folder in Google Docs?

Tried this and it didn't work.

Not quite a perfect solution, but if you go into the folder, you can then select all docs and click share.

This is a feature that should be top priority. The ability to control security via groups on directories is one of the last bits missing for this to truly be useful for SMBs.

Check out Springnote.

It's branded as a wiki, but is oh so much more.

From my experience with Springnote it beats Google Docs in:

• Registering (openID support)
• Text editing
• Templates
• Collaborating
• Tagging
• File Managing

Yup even in Google Sites the sharing is a bit goofy and manual. I can see the complications but there are many ways forward (just trial 'em!)

*For individuals
Please share folders as if an individual doc and reset collaborators (a skype share contacts pattern)

*For a larger sharing strategy
Overall it would be great to move towards categories, roles and permisions
A permissions view would be excellent

I would like to be able to create a complete file and folder list on one account, but only allow access for employees to certain folders eg, technical data, and sharing particular folders seems to be the best way, oh well

i notice when i click to share a folder now it says they have not yet implemented it... so i assume they're working on it... i hope it comes out soon, i use it to keep track of articles we write for our blog.

@Banning: Indeed. I just checked today and it said the same thing. I'd like this implemented straight away -- even higher priority than merging table cells in Documents.

springnote doesn't seem too promising either: click on create a new group and i get an internal server error.

this feature is really needed, I spent last 30 min trying to figure out how to do it, I was so sure it's possible (it even says "not shared" next to the folder) so I kinda knew it was possible but didn't know how to make it work... sharing folders is a must...

Indeed. I agree that it's sorely needed. Perhaps it's harder to do than we think since the original question was posed over 1 year ago.

Folder sharing was released in the API some days ago.

Yes! I noticed recently a tool-tip in Google Docs too, saying: "NEW: Share Folders" or kind of...

New! Share your folders

Select the folder you want to share and click on the "Share this folder" link.

Folders that have been shared with you will show up in "Folders shared with me".

Yes, you *can* share folders - it's only two weeks old or so, but it's possible now. See the attached screenshot showing how easy it is now :)
