malware and google search
[Nov 11] google search now returns url references in terms of go.google.com. For what ever reason, using the go.google.com link redirects to a non-related ad site. Many of these linked sites are generating massive scam-ware and spy-ware. I've lost 7 hours of work-time trying to fix the machine after these changes
[Nov 19]
With further work, I've found that malware had redirected go.google.com links to an alternative go.google.com, which sent out the false redirection. For the alternative site to work it must have been recasting google services. Is it possible to verify for correctness, google servers?
(searching on google for fixes to xxxx security issues would redirect to a malware site, with warez and kiddie porn. it was implemented in the malware by false dns and registry hacks.)

Inappropriate? The problem was worse than I had thought.
1) a group policy item had been set to not allow any administrator to modify the register.
2) the dns server had been reset to a specfic host which redirected some host names to presetup servers (go.google.com now went to a non-google server)
I got around the problem by reverting back to a previous saved instance of the registry. I had to remove directories and reinstall applications that had been added since that registry had been active.
SuperAntiSpyware.com has a free and non-free cleaner for the residual malware. in my case it worked
in any case, nothing I could do worked until I could change the registry which the malware had altered.
I’m satisfied
