the new version of Gmail crashes Firefox 2.0.0.x 9 times out of 10.
It's clearly a conflict with an extension, but I can't figure out which one. When I launch FF in Safe Mode I have no issues at all.
I've disabled Firebug, and have turned off Greasemonkey. I've heard that perhaps it is the Web Developer extension -- but honestly, I refuse to turn that one off. I use it constantly.
Any ideas?

Inappropriate?Data point: I'm a heavy Gmail user with Firefox 2.0.0.7, Firebug and Web Developer 1.1.4. So far I have not had any problems.
Don't forget to check the Gmail support newsgroups to see if there are other people reporting similar issues.

Thanks, Jeff (late reply here, I know). I'll try that. Thought I had disabled that already, but will try anything at this point. -
Inappropriate?I have no problems with gmail in ver 2.0.0.13, but 9 times out of ten firefox crashes when running Google Analytics scripts.
-
Inappropriate?I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.14 and I have this problem whenever I press the Browse button to attach a file to a message. Interestingly, the same thing happened when I hit the Browse button in my getsatisfaction profile page...so the problem is not Gmail, it's Firefox. Yes?
I’m frustrated
-
Update: I determined that the problem was Gmail Notifier, which was affecting the browse button in all Firefox windows. (It wasn't crashing them, as it turns out, but rather taking a long time -- minutes, at times -- to load the Windows Explorer browse window....and freezing all other Firefox windows in the meantime.) Anyway, I uninstalled and reinstalled Gmail Notifier and everything is working fine, now. ...Curtis... -
Inappropriate?Im having exactly Leandro's problem... Iv changed to the older version to see if it changes the issue.
I’m Totally Baffed
-
Inappropriate?Not just gmail ... I'm having same problem with Yahoo! email and MS exchange server. It's something in FF ... I haven't added any "addons" or made any major changes that I can think of within the past couple of days.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I've had this problem, too, but since I've installed Better Gmail 2 extension, it stopped crashing!
I’m happy!:D
-
Inappropriate?I reverted to classic firefox skin, disabled my link validator, wc3 checker, and some other SEO related tools i didn't use all of the time.
I kept Web Developer and Link Checker on though, I now can send mail in Gmail without crashing. Keep disabling your add-ons, one of them is a sneaky snake gmail breaker!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?GRRRR it is an add-on causing trouble but I took EVERYTHING off: DOM inspector, Download StatusBar, Firefox Showcase, FireFTP, Foxmark Bookmark Synchronizer, FOxyTunes, Google gear, I heart Miro, Moviefone Toolbar, Post to Wordpress, Readeroo (which I love) Stumbleupon, Tab Mix Plus, and Wordpress Post.
Any of these prime suspects?
I’m kinda pooped

Inappropriate?I have a similar problem but it only started after I upgraded to AVG v 8. Are ohers with this problem also using AVG 8...?

Inappropriate?Firefox keeps crashing when I sign out of Gmail...

Inappropriate?I have removed every add on, uninstalled all of firefox and any bits of itself it habitually leaves behind and then re-installed from 2.0.0 on up to 3.0.x. None of this works. It is still crashing. I disabled JavaScript and used the old version of gmail, that worked. But, anything that uses JavaScript will no longer work! That kills YouTube completely. I refuse to live without YouTube! So, I turned JavaScript back on. If no fix is found I may have to abandon Gmail or FuireFox. I hope a fix is found soon. Has anyone turned this in to FireFox or Gmail?
-
Inappropriate?I have reported this to firefox. Firefox crashes when I click on gmail. I havfe tried 2.0 and 3.0 but still crashes.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I had thought that I had removed all add ons. I did not. I had thought by uninstalling firefox that would remove the add ons, it does not.
You will need to go to tools- add ons and remove all add ons. I removed them one by tedious one and discovered that it was a YouTube Video Downloader that was actually crashing Gmail and FireFox for me. It may be a totally different add-on for you. You may need to uninstall all of them, re-install FireFox and the re-add your add-ons one by one until the culprit is found and uninstall it again.
Good Luck!
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I went to tools>add-ons and uninstalled the only "Glubble" one I found there. It didn't work. Wondering if I need to re-install Firefox now.
It's a terrible problem!
I’m frustrated, very frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Cynthia, Hold off on re-installing FireFox.
If you don't use Java and you don't go to YouTube or a simular site, ect. Then you could turn off Java in FireFox. First , double check that all add-ons have been uninstalled or disabled. Seems odd that you only had one add-on. "Glubble"? I haven't heard of that one. I'll google it right now!. -
Thank you! I disabled Java and haven't crashed yet! Unfortunately, I'm not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be and I'm not sure how disabling Java will be a disadvantage. However, I'm VERY RELIEVED that my gmail (I rely on it for business) hasn't crashed yet!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! -
I'm back to square-one of crashing every time I reply again. Only thing I did differently since "no-crash time" was that I checked "cookies" because I couldn't see a YouTube video without doing so. Then, when I unchecked cookies, believe it or not, I couldn't even get beyond the sign-on screen....nothing would happen. I'm utterly confused. -
Does my Norton 360 have something to do with all the crashing, I wonder? -
Inappropriate?Cynthia,
The chances look very good that you did not uninstall Glubble. This one is a bit harder to remove than normal. Follow the advice from the Glubble team as below.
Ok, what you need is to remove the Glubble Add-on from Firefox but, it is protected from removal. Here’s how you do this when you’re not able to access the FF top menu. It requires a little more skills, but follow the steps below, and all will be fine. Btw you can’t damage your system following these steps. Depending what operating system you use (Apple/Windows/Linux)...
The steps are:
1. Close your Firefox browser.
2. Locate your Firefox’s profile:
* *On Windows XP/2000*:
o The path is /C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\ApplicationData\Mozilla\Firefox
\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default//\/.
o Note for Windows XP/2000: The Application Data folder is a *hidden folder*. To show
hidden folders, open the Windows Explorer (the application that allows you to browse your
files in your computer) and choose “/Tools/ -> /Folder/ /Options/ -> /View
(tab)/ -> /Show hidden files and folders/”.
* *On Windows Vista*:
o The path is /C:\users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
\xxxxxxxx.default/
o Note for Windows Vista: The AppData folder is a *hidden folder.* To show hidden folders,
open Windows Explorer (the application that allows you to browse your files in your
computer) and choose “/Organize/ -> /Folder and Search Options/ -> /Folder Options/ ->
/View (tab) /-> /Show hidden files and folders/”
* *On Linux*, the path is/ ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default//
* *On Mac OS X*, the path is /~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/
* *Note:* xxxxxxxx is a *random string* of 8 characters (e.g. irxsh9wu)
3. Remove the folder named “*Glaxstar*”
4. Restart your Firefox browser, goto Tools -> Add-ons
5. The Glubble Add-on is removed.
Hope this will work for you.

Inappropriate?Cynthia,
Sounds like you reactivated Java. This will need to be deactivated again. Plus, if you really want to solve this problem you should start by following the steps I recommended prior. And make certain that ALL add-ons are off (Options/Manage Add-ons) Disable all of the extensions as well. I realize it is very complicated. Perhaps, it is time to get some help for this problem? Help, like from best buy or a local computer repair.
Good Luck!

Inappropriate?why not upgrade to 3.0.9? this includes all updates from 2.0.0X - 3.0.9
and it does not crash with the new version

I did a Windows (XP) update and installed Google Chrome after reading your message. I'm totally up and running SMOOTHLY and NOT CRASHING and NOT SLOW! I'm so thankful for this (and previous) advice! -
Inappropriate?I glad it did not crash for you. It did crash in 3.09 for me and many others. It continues to do so on my other machine that I have not gotten around to pulling all of the add-ons.
I’m coping
-
Inappropriate?try installing Google Gadgets, this may help with the crashing.... cause i think the new version of Gmail uses some of the Google Gadgets code
I’m silly

Inappropriate?I had GMail / Firefox problem - now fixed.
I disablied around 6 plugins. I never had the HTML Validator plugin nor others refered and I cannot be bothered to establish which was offending plug(s) in on my laptop. I suggest disabling all you think you can live without, and re-enable one by one if need be. Anyway, for me problem is fixed.
Ive never posted advise on a forum before so hope this helps someone !
