Why can't deleted Google accounts be recovered?
I just tried to delete my secondary Google Account (used for Groups only) and I had Gmail open in another tab. Both of them have the same username, just one is @gmail.com and the other is with another provider. I signed into the secondary account and then went to the delete my account page. It just showed the first part of the username, not the entire email address, so of course, I thought it was deleteing the secondary account that I just signed into. As it turns out, I just erased my entire primary Google account with my email, contacts, documents and everything. It really, really sucks.
I know I made a mistake and should have triple checked somehow (although I don't know how I would have done this, since it didn't show the full email address on the delete page), but there should be some way to recover a deleted account. Even a five-minute grace period would have saved me this pain. Why!? Why!?
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Ouch, Nick! Sorry to hear about the mistake.
I'd spend a few minutes checking out this help section: http://www.google.com/support/account... and drop a note to the support team via one of the forms there. No promises, but perhaps there's something one of the folks there can do.

Inappropriate?Yeah, I read all the online FAQs there and basically learned that I was screwed. I sent a request to the support department, so all I can do now is wait. Hopefully they will be able to help me. I just think there should be some kind of procedure in place so that people can recover their accounts that have been deleted, at least within 24 hours or something like that.
The funny thing is that I have a Firefox extension to check my Gmail and it still can login and tell me I am using 446 MB. I can also still login to my Google AdSense account, so I know that my information with Google hasn't been completely lost. -
Inappropriate?Hi guys!
Unfortunately I did the same mistake as Nick more than a year ago.
Since then I try to re register my old account regularly, every month.
Without any success.. Google says, my desired login name is not available.
That is a shame, because having a google email address, that equals your name exactly is a value!

Roland
I’m sorry

Inappropriate?Hi Adam,
an alternate solution could be, to allow users to re register their dropped accounts via use of the relevant password. (the last password used at that account) Nick?

Inappropriate? The same thing just happened to me today at 12:21pm... I spent half my day at work trying to solve the problem. I don't think Google gives a clear explanation of what will happen after you submit. Especially something like deleting an account. I didn't see a confirmation page. Now I can't see my blog which was http://kim2thekiko.blogspot.com and now is http://kim2thekiko2.blogspot.com
I’m annoyed, frustrated, mad, horrified- no wait, make that mortified

Inappropriate? It is worth noting that Google NEVER bothered to respond to me. Not even a "Too bad, your bad". There is absolutely zero hope of getting your account back.
I’m very disappointed in Google

From what I've just read in here, it does not seem that way. -
Inappropriate?I fear there isn't much hope..
