Why can't I download more than one email message at a time via POP all of a sudden?
All of a sudden, whenever my Mail.app mail client goes to download email from my gmail account, it can only get one message at a time. I tried switching pop servers from pop.gmail.com to pop.googlemail.com (and back), which in the past has helped when this problem has come up, but no go this time.
It's really frustrating! I usually get 20-60 messages every night that it now takes almost a half hour to pull off the Google server. Anybody have any ideas about what can be done to fix this on my end, or is it something that's up with the Gmail service?

Inappropriate?I'm being limited to 50 messages a pop, on a account that gets hundreds of messages a day.
But I also hear on twitter that Gmail is screwed up today.

Inappropriate?well now POP has stopped working entirely, for the last day and a half. looks like i'm just gonna have to wait it out.

Inappropriate?for future reference: i had to reset the "Enable POP for all email that arrives from now on" feature to get it working again. Of course that meant I can never download 3-4 days worth of email, which sucks, but I'm managing. Not an ideal solution, but it works. Image below:

Inappropriate?After first downloading a large chunk of my mail via POP, it then slowed to downloading only one message at a time. It has now, however, stopped downloading entirely. Every time it connects to the server I get the message that there are no more new messages on the server, even though it's obvious that there are.
I've tried deleting the next message on the server (the message following the last successful download), which has sometimes fixed the problem in the past, but even that doesn't fix it now. I'm at a loss for what else to try.
(btw, I'm using Thunderbird on a Mac).

peter, did you try my suggestion above? it's the equivalent of a hard reset, but it continues to work for me. -
I did cancel and then re-enable POP access on my account. The thing is, I'm trying to get more than just the past few days' worth of mail. Ideally, I'd like to retrieve my whole mailbox, but Gmail doesn't seem to want to let me. Currently I'm trying the recent:username trick to get the most recent messages via POP, but I'd still like to be able to access older messages.
