Google Reader: Unstar all items

Before Google Reader implemented a like button, I used the star feature to star all my favorite posts. Now my collection has grown to more than 6,000 starred items and I need a way to remove them all. I can't delete my Google Reader account because it is tied to my Gmail, so I think a simple "Unstar all" button in the Starred items tab would be extremely helpful.
