I cannot delete any Google Reader tags!
After deleting about 100 tags, and having more left to delete, I started getting the "Oops...an error occurred" message. I cannot delete any more tags. This has been a major issue for many months and people on the Google Reader group have the same unsolved problem.

Inappropriate?Same problem, and this is not the first time I've run into this...
I’m very frustrated

Inappropriate?"Google employees are here to help." Well, not on this one apparently. Great...
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hi Twan and Anthony,
I'm sorry to hear you're experience this problem, which has dogged a few users off and on for months. We're going to take another look to see if we can solve the problem - I'll post back to this thread in a day or two with an update at which point we may ask you to submit your account information via a form so we can take a more specific look at your account. Thanks for your patience-
-
Inappropriate?Just let me know if and when you want the info.
-
Inappropriate?Nick, any luck yet?
-
Give him some time. We're lucky to be getting any notice! -
Inappropriate?Hi Twan and Anthony -

Inappropriate?Nick, Did you get my message?
-
Inappropriate?Hi Twan and Anthony - we got your messages and are currently working on it - I'll update again soon.
-
Inappropriate?Ah, great! (eager to return to Reader... ;) )
-
Inappropriate?Okay guys, it looks like we may have found a workaround for your accounts - the only catch is you won't be able to recreate tags you've deleted, or the problem could return. If this sounds like an acceptable solution to you (i.e. you promise to use different tag names), let me know and we'll get to work on your accounts.
-
Wow! It surprises me that the fix comes with side effects. Will the problem continue to be investigated? or is this the only solution?
Also, does this include Folders? or just Tags? -
Hey Anthony,
We'll continue to search for a long-term fix to this problem; in the meantime, this is a short-term workaround for the problem that involves the tradeoff. It includes both Folders and Tags. -
Inappropriate?Nick, you're saying I can't use any of the 31 tags/folders I've applied? Wow.
That's not a workable solution for me. What's your estimate on a real fix?
-
I agree with Twan on this. -
Inappropriate?Hey guys,
It looks like you may be misunderstanding the short-term fix. Under this workaround, you'll be free to use your tags and folders, you just can't *recreate* any of the tags or folders that you have previously deleted - which shouldn't be a problem since they are deleted and presumably not in use.
As for a long-term solution, I'm unfortunately unable to give you an ETA on a fix. Please keep in mind that the team working on Google Reader is small and we're dedicated to prioritizing the bug fixes and features that will positively affect the largest number of individuals.
The issue you are experiencing only affects a small subset of users. While we're working on a long-term fix, I want to tell you in the spirit of being completely honest and transparent with you that a long-term solution may not be immediately on the horizon. I hope you can understand.
Please let me know if you'd like to try the short-term workaround, which again, will only prevent you from recreating previously deleted tags.

Inappropriate?Hi Nick,
I'm constantly moving, naming and renaming tags/folders and feeds, according to, for instance, the number of feeds per tag or new views on certain subjects. So it's quite possible that I return to use the name of a formerly deleted tag for practical reasons. Also, I often import and export opml's and move feeds between accounts and so on.
Am I correct to understand that Google Reader at the moment isn't robust enough to deal with this kind of usage? I never encoutered any of the same problems with Bloglines or Newsgator. With Google Reader this is the third time. (Oh, and please give my regards to Roger, who was in the end able to fix the incorrect unread count number bug last year... http://groups.google.nl/group/google-... )
For me, not reusing any previously deleted tags/folders is a not a workable option. I guess I will have to look at other, more robust applications to read my feeds.
Bye,
Twan -
I agree completely, sorry Nick. -
Inappropriate?Hello Nick,
I have the same problem: Whenever I try to delete a Tag in GReader, it says "Ooops..."
I tried it with different browsers. For me the short term solution would be acceptable -- but I would need it URGENTLY!
Otherwise I'm very happy with GReader. I tested some others, but I liked functionality as well as look and feel.
Thank you and best,
Uli -
Hello NICK! I would be happy if you could help me. I found a way to work around -- I work now with NetNewsWire -- but I would like to solve the problem nevertheless. -
Inappropriate?Nick, any news on when we can expect a real fix for this annoying bug?
-
Inappropriate? After three months still no solution from the Google reader team. Since they don't seem too anxious to fix this bug, I thought I'd share this work around:
Tip for anyone who experiences this problem but still wants to user Google Reader: I'm not using my Gmail account to access Google Reader anymore, but a Google account with my regular e-mail address. Big advantage of this method: if anything goes wrong, you just delete the account and then set it up again.
Attention: don't do this with your Gmail account, because once you delete it, you won't get it back! (Yeah, I know...)
It's not an ideal solution. I really want to use my Gmail account with all the services attached to it and now I have to switch all the time. But still, maybe better than nothing... -
Inappropriate? That sounds smart! What I did was starting to use NewsNetWire -- which is synchronizing with my GReader account, but NOT displaying the tags.
-
Inappropriate? After I've imported some OPML file got the same problem - i can't delete any tag...
-
Inappropriate?Hi Butek,
Welcome to the club... After four months no real solution from Google yet.
I’m frustrated
